@htid,

The giraffes normally hang out near Mata-Mata and the reason being that is where the boma is where they were kept when they were relocated back into the park. Any specie tends to stay in the area where they have been put in a boma.

Tracks of the giraffe has been found as close as south of Houmoed (Where the dune road meets the Auob Riverbed) and they have also been see just north of Kij Kij waterhole.

Since re-introduction, they have bred well and multiplied quickly, so they will be looking for more territory, and the only way to go really, is south. So as KG & LQ have said, look anywhere.

:hmz: Hi All
In 2004 we visited the Kgalagadi the first time, on our way from Upington we encountered many dead bat eared foxes on the road [we stopped counting at 50] ,during our stay at Nossob we saw many of these guys under the flood light each night [ up to 17 a night] The next year we returned and again saw many feeding under the floodlight together with jackals ,we have returned every year and sometimes twice a year and no more bat eared foxes, can any one tell us what has become of them , the drought about 4 years ago must have taken its toll ,how long will it take if that was the cause for them to recover .The amount of dead ones on the road can now be counted on one hand We are returning again in April and are hoping to see them at Nossob again
 posting.php?mode=post&f=38#
Thanks Woodsy

Hi woodsey,

When it is very dry, there are no (or very few) insects and therefore no battys as they follow their food source.
We also noticed that there were very few in 2010.

The good news is that we saw a lot more of them last year  and babies

As for them getting run over -- they tend to move around in family groups and, when caught in headlights, will bunch together for protection :( Not too sure what can be done about it though -- the owls are also at risk :(

Do hope you see many battys during your April trip

Hi at all.
I introduce myself. I´m juan, and I'm from Spain.
In August I will travel to KTP, and I am mainly interested in two species; Brown hyaena and Caracal. I would appreciate any information about what are the best places in the park to try to see these animals.
We also welcome information on other two species; The aardwolf and the black footed cat. (I find information of both species in the park, but is confusing for my)
I will sleep 6 days at Twee riveren, Mata-mata and KT camp.
Many thanks to all for your help. My English is very bad, and although I tried to gather information in the forum entries, I can not understand a lot of effort.
A greeting.

Hello spanishwolf and welcome to the forums.

Brown Hyena and caracal can be seen anywhere in the KTP but it all depends on luck and to be at the right place at the right time.

I don't know of anybody seeing a black footed cat so if you see one it will be very special.

I suggest you follow this thread and see where these animals are sighted to improve your chances of seeing them

Good luck and have a great time.

Welcome to the forum spanishwolf.

You have very difficult requests :hmz:

Your best bet for brown hyena is a sunset or night ride from Twee Rivieren (2R).

Check the recent sightings thread, as brownies are often seen near 2R after dark.

As for the others, I have not seen any in the park, but that does not mean they are not there.

Good luck, and we understand your English perfectly
