Agreed, Tsessebe! I posted a lovely pic of a Lichtenstein's near P'kop in a trip report a few years back. I'll check if I can dig it up.

Any idea what kind of mongoose this might be?
I've been up and down this forum and on google,
but can't come up with an ID. :wall:

Seeing that it is still early night, maybe a lrge grey mongoose?
Or a Meller's?
Or...?

Hi anne-marie

Having nosed around a little I think that is a Brant's whistling rat, like you suggested. Sharp eyes!

Lionspoon, it certainly looks very much like a large grey mongoose. If that's right, I think these sightings in the past few days have been a camming first

Hi,

This antelope was seen at Mokala in December. Can someone please tell me what it is. Apologies for the poor quality pic but it was very far away.

Someone suggested it was a black springbok. Could that be the correct ID?

Thanks

It certainly looks like one.

The black sprinbok is actually a normal springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) which has been bred into a black and a white variety. So it is not a separate (sub-) species.
Better not google it, most of the pages you find are hunting ones.

Thanks all for confirmation on the black springbok. :gflower:

I did Google it and found some interesting info on both black and white springbok. :D

Can't believe that people would want to hunt these beautiful animals! Grrr! :sniper:
