My vote also goes to Dalkieth.
I seem to recall the fence getting in the way of the waterhole when parking in the road under a tree seeking some shade.

Thanks Jan for an interesting series. Bring both a smile and a tear. We spend about 6-8 weeks a year in KTFP, having unfortunately only started 6 years ago.

Wonderful park and therefore happy smiles from the memories until next visit this coming August.

But the tears. I recognize in your Dalkeith picture the redbrick that was lying there in November 2011. I also have a photo of lions playing with rubber pipes at Craig Lockhart. I also again notice the little pieces of firewood tied up on the plumbing, and that wire fence that eternally frames one of my action shots.

The park and its rangers have an immense task, and maintaining the photogenicity of water holes is understandably low down in its priorities. However I do not think it should remain that way. Photography is exponentially increasing in popularity locally and abroad. Thats a lot of financial support potentially available. It is a pity that the one point that all the animals congregate at and produce such wonderful action is the point where the necessary man made intrusions are so obvious. I recognize the financial restraints and I see major improvements at some water holes. All I am suggesting is that we tidy up the rubble and try simply additions to hide plumbing e.g. tree trunks in front of pipes.

Why don't major gardening concerns in South Africa get enlisted to help design animal friendly boreholes that allow memorable photos that do not requiring extensive photoshopping. I still remember the BBC gardening program that came to SA to redesign Mandela's garden. What about enlisting aid from benevolent experts and horticultural groups working under the park wardens to create a more "natural" borehole environment for the animals to use and people to observe from a distance. No plastic garden gnomes just a few simple changes

Before I get inundated with criticism let me again state i am trying to be constructive and have immense appreciation for our wonderful park and the superb and friendly staff. But one does sometimes need a zoom lens to focus on possible improvements. I would be willing to help tidy up, during our visits!! I do walk around my home town along the canal to lose weight and then pick up discarded tins and paper as the wonderful spring arises. But there are no predators around here, just the potential danger of broken glass.
