Hi Jannie

Thanks vir die updates re: sightings board. I'll be in the park from 10-16 March as well as the Eastern weekend. I do keep a sheet with all the sightings to get an idea of the animals - so keep it coming.

Thanks again.

Fantastic photos BG!

So our phones have been down all day, but I can update now.

Night Drive last night:

Seriously unforgettable night... Porcupine in the road- a first for our well-travelled guests, so they were thrilled. Also plenty of lions to keep us on our toes...

Today:

We went off to Mata Mata to drop off another staff member and we had some good sightings along the way:

Hyenas: swimming and playing with a wildebeest carcass at Monro. More hyenas watching the action at Kamqua waterhole.

Lions: 2 females and a nice looking male at Batulama

Cheetahs: 3 under a tree for shade near Urikaruus. And then one male drinking at Gemsbokplein

I'm not reading much about Mata-Mata? When I was there in November there were cheetah and lion everywhere between Mata-Mata and Urikaruus? How have the sightings been of late?

What great photo's - thanks for sharing - hopefully we will have some good ones to add!! It is all very exciting I must say and I can see why you love the place so much! I must say would love to have lions visiting us in camp but they must just leave my tent alone!! So will certainly post back on any happenings at Rooiputs during the 3 nights we will be there! Counting down - amidst menu's,rusk baking & camp equipment assemble!

These sightings sound incredible. We arrive on March 2. Tell them not to go to ground before we arrive from UK.

please!

Night drive last night: very quiet, but had good sightings of the usuals- plenty of scrub hare and spring hare. A few Bat Eared fox sightings and two seperate polecat sightings!

Morning drive this morning: all the general game, plus steenbok. 3 really good African Wild cat sightings. Lots of evidence of honey badger activity (but sadly no badgers). Lion tracks on the dune road. Had a mother cheetah and 3 cubs (about 8 months old) crossing the road at Houmoed. But the day belonged to the birds! Lovely sightings including a red-necked falcon eating someone's chick, some greater kestrels hanging out with a gabar goshawk, and an unidentified harrier being mobbed by drongos. Based on the strong tail barring, I'm going with a black harrier, but can't be totally sure.
