There is a less chance and there always has been a less chance. This world is very unpredictable. Who knows they might not diminish

With reference to concerns over the scarcity of white lions :-

Remember - if the gene for a white lion exist, it can never be destroyed, it will always be there.

Just think of how the quagga were "re-created" by selective breeding 100 years after it's
extinction.

So the white lions will not disappear - they might not be there for a while but will eventually return.

I in any-case beleave there could still be quite a few around as I have seen 2 prides in the early nineties
[ one or two tanned ones amongs the two prides ] in Timbavati close to the KNP boundary at or
just before the time the fences were lifted.

[ The 2 prides were having a territorial dispute one evening at late dusk.]

These were taken in july 2010 the Timbavati

As far as I know the two females are still around , seen from the private lodges (umlani , kings camp , tanda tula , motswari etc )

Was very lucky to see them on a number of different ocasions during my time in the Timbavati . The 1st time I saw them you could not see that they were white lions (both covered in mud and blood , feeding on a giraffe kill with moms and siblings ) , the photo's above are from my 2nd sighting looking all fresh and clean.

There was another cub born to a different pride but we didn't get to see her much , travelled in an area off limits to the private lodges.

I think the best place to see the white lions is in the timbavati, game reserves bordering Kruger. :D

personally I have only seen them on photos :slap:

I suppose it is possible that they can move into Kruger and stay there? But I think it is a rare sighting if a person sees a white lion in the wild.

Where I have seen them is as wild as you can get. It is possible for them to move into Kruger but remember they also have to compete with the resident lion prides in Kruger. The fact that they are white lions, doesn't give them VIP status.

As mentioned the white lion gene pool is in the Greater Kruger area (klaserie, timbavati & umbabat).
Growing up we often saw white lion in Ingwelala.

I know there are currently white lion in this area....

If you have a look on a Kruger Map - from Olifants / Roodewal in a westerly direction you'll find a seasonal river "Nhlaralumi" - this corner bordering the Park is the hotspot.

A female in the Ross pride gave birth to a white cub a few months ago. The Ross pride is named after the farm, which straddles Argyle Road and is thus partly in the Klaserie and partly in the Timbavati.

Pictures in the July issue of the Klaserie Chronicle

Could someone please help me... :?
I was under the impression we still had some white lions in the Kruger/Timbavati area
Does anyone know IF there ARE still any white lions in the wild?
I was told by an australian zoologist that there are no white lions left in the wild
and only 300 worldwide in breeding captivity
And a breeding pair of white lions in captivity in australia
have recently given birth to two little white cubs, who have been separated from the parents,
to be hand reared, to keep them used to humans,
they will be sent to other breeding "zoos" for breeding purposes.

I did not want to make comment in case I had the incorrect "impression"
and would appreciate IF someone could enlighten me
Thanks :)

There are still white lions in the greater Kruger area. They frequent the area of the Klaserie/Timbavati/Umbabat portions of the extended Kruger area. We have seen them there about 2 years ago. So, don't believe your Australian zoologist.

Hey everybody

I am not sure if any one else has seen the news floating around other parts of the internet. On Friday there was a white lion cub spotted in the Singita concession near Singita Lebombo.

Also on one of the Kruger FB groups I belonged to another tourist had a sighting yesterday on the S41 4km's from the s100 T-junction.

Lets hope this little one can make it to adult hood.

That sighting was with 9 other cubs, so if it is the same cub perhaps they have now joined back up with the rest of the pride.
