I am still trying to find out what those pink flowers are at Orpen Camp next to the coffee kiosk. I stupidly didnt take a pic of them but am hoping that someone else has seen them and knows what they are. They were flowering last Sunday when we were on our way to Satara.
Thin strappy type leaves, pale pink flowers with faces upturned, not like a crinum with trumpet downturned flowers.

possibly??? tritonia nelsonii. check them on google images

I have just spoken to a very friendly man at Orpen.
He will try to get an ID on the flowers for us.

edit : Dumisani (thank you ! ) says Impala lilies, which I am sure are there, but I don't think the one's that you are looking for, Safari Gal.

Thanks Dumisani. It could be impala lilies?? they vary from white- to light-red. surely pale pink falls in that category?? will wait for Safari Gal's reply on which of the many answers is the flower she's looking for. or someone around there if they have a picture to show us??

Thank you all for your attempts to help me identify this flower. It has now become a total obsession with me!!! I asked the staff at Orpen - no they didnt know, I asked a FGASA guide who was at the camp at the time - no he didnt know. I emailed the Skukuza nursery - without a photo, no they didnt know - surely someone must have planted these things............. It is a WHOLE bed full of them.
Can anybody tell me who is the gardener at Orpen? I am currently waiting to hear from the Orpen section ranger to see if he can shed some light on this. I could scream that I didnt take a pic of them
Definitely not an impala lily which I know, this is more like a flowering bulb, but it did have seed pods where the flowers had died
I cant wait to be able to come back and say "YES" - I have found out what they are

YES!!!!!!!!! A million thanks to Michele from Skukuza Nursery who came back to me and said she thought it MIGHT be a storm lily, but she wasnt too sure. Looked it up on Google and BINGO. Latin name zephranthes grandiflora (or some refer to it as zephranthes carinata).
Beautiful pink flowers - was amazed to see that they are not indigenous but originate from Mexico or Gautemala.

True, but exotics don't belong in Kruger, not even in camps.

At a pinch it is OK to plant species that occurr in the general area but happen not to grow in camp, as certain trees at Punda Maria, but that's the limit in my opinion.

We took these pictures at Orpen on 28 December. Are they the flowers you are talking about?
We too would like to know what they are. Very delicate and pretty.

Those are storm lilies Dave, I have some in my garden. MIL is convinced that they do predict rain. It's been raining so much lately that I don't have a chance of testing that theory.
