Dear Avon,

Many thanks and great pics and account! Would you (and any others) be prepared to share your flood pics with me, as I am putting together a digital archive of this flood as I did with 2000, for future generations. I file them under the name of the contributor and any use will go with recognition of the photographer/ contributor.

Kind regards.

JOEP

Thank you Joep for the update  Great to know that Tshokwane will be repaired, even if it takes months. Hopefully the resident monkeys didn't forget how to find their natural food if there are no tourists to feed them

Thanks for the update, Joep. Much appreciated  .

Hopefully the camping side of Balule will be up and running before we get there in May.

Hi Leigh - just curious, did you manage to visit Sweni? It has been looking so dry and miserable these last couple of years and can be so beautiful. Thanks again for your blog, very interesting and enjoy the rest of your time.

Hi Hoyle
Sorry just saw this comment now. I didn't get to Sweni but am sure it is full of water as that area was hit hard. The nearby picnic site is still closed.

Excellent blog Leigh. Read it from start to finish and was happy to see all the waterholes filled again. I did the full length of the park in Nov/Dec and most of the dams were very low. I know heavy rain like this does do a lot of damage but it also clears a lot of the debris away. I see the island on the bend in the Olifants river (view from the camp) has disappered again after re-establishing itself after 2000. I was amazed at the damage to the hig bridge, which is normally some 10 metres above the river. After the floods of 2000 the saying in the camps was - 'It all went to Mozambique'. Well done and I look forward to your next installment. Just to take peoples minds off the floods here are a few pics of Mlondozi dam in mid December when the park was crying out for rain, but probably not in the amount that arrived. Bond M (UK)

Thanks for the pictures, bondm and Joep,

I will be at Mlondozi shortly and will post a picture of the water level now there after our return

The water level at Tshokwane must have been incredible - I think after seeing these everybody will understand now the incredible damage there a bit better
