Hi Leigh - just read your report on your travels. What a great idea and thank you so much. I have been following all the reports, pics etc. and your news is so great, being able to actually see what has happened.
Do have a safe trip and thanks once again.

Sad news about Tamboti and Balule!

I have a question. It's going to cost millions to fix all the damages, but what about insurance? Are Kruger's assets (movable and immovable) covered? :hmz:

Any feedback yet? :hmz:

Theuns, please exercise a little patience. You posted the question only 3.5 hours ago. Right now SANParks is pretty busy sorting the flood damage and its implications, and sorting accommodation for guests etc etc - which I am sure you will agree is, and should be, priority.

Dear Fellow 'mites

Please help? I've never uploaded photos before on the site. My husband was called out for cable faults @ Letaba and took a few pics of the aftermath - very good pics- I would like to share them with you. Please tell me how to upload?

Many thanks

Dear Theuns,

Yes, SANParks has insurance on various components, amongst others most of it's building and infrastructure. Roads and bridges in general are not covered and unfortunately this is where a major component of expenses lies.

Kind regards.

Hi all

Reading the latest news report this morning I see that various camps are still closed, I have a booking at Biyamiti in Late March and was wondering what is the extent of the damage in Biyamiti and will the camp be open by March. ( am getting worried as I am being joined by my brother and sister in law and niece who are first timers, so need to make alternate arrangements if needed)

Well done to all who helped during the dark days in Kruger, and to thase who are keeping us all updated THANK YOU

Latest Media Update on the Kruger Floods.

The Roads Section is currently very busy with grading activities in the Marula Region around the Biyamiti area and guests are warned to exercise caution when using these roads until all work has been completed.
For Balule and Tamboti, where damage was extensive and reconstruction is expected to take several months, guests with bookings will be contacted in order to change bookings.

Thanks Joep, are the roads and bridges not covered through the provincial roads dept?

Dear RobertT,

No, SANParks is responsible for it's own roads and this is not the responsibility of the provinces.

Kind regards.

JOEP

Kruger Flood update as at 15:00 on 26 January 2012 media release can be found here.

Guests to Satara are requested to use electricity very sparingly as Eskom supply line at Balule was washed away and camp is operating on standby generator. There are no facilities at all at Tshokwane and guests may not alight from vehicles there.
