Dominant croc will chase the intruder by biting an roaring. Non dominant normally leave the water with dominant croc in persuit but the dominant will not leave the water. Serious figting may occur at times.

I would think the coiling is a sign of defense, and may suggest it is ready to retaliate in the way it usually ambushes its prey?
