Marloth had over 200mm in places in 24 hours. All the little overflow streamlets are like rivers, roads are badly damaged. At one spot in Seekoei Rd. running alongside the river, the road has crumbled up halfway across and the water is taking everything with it.

Bye Bye lookout point I guess. Sigh. And it was such a nice place to go watch the sun set from.

I recognise some of those roads from my visits to the Park (sadly, not as many as I'd have liked, but hey, I live in Cape Town and it's a long way to go with two small kids), and the absolute power of the water is amazing.

Good luck to all in the area. I get the feeling you're going to need it.

I really hope all people affected by these floods will come out OK, especially those poor people stuck in Hoedspruit.

Thanks to all mites who have posted updates to keep us informed!

Does anyone know what the conditions are like at Berg en Dal? Can you still enter the park through the Malelane gate?

I had planned today to do a loop up the road towards Tshokwane and back across the high level bridge......but now staying firmly in camp! Stephen says BnD very wet but otherwise OK that side at the moment.

Someone on the Blackberry sighting group has just exited Malalane gate. He says 'water everywhere, I couldn't see through the thick rain'.
The entrance isn't closed yet. But not wise to go there under these conditions.

At Phalaborwa talk is of 230ml in the past 24 hrs. The main road to Gravelotte Tzaneen area closed due to bridge damage just out of town. Kruger gate closed. Trees have fallen across the road in town roots simply cannot cope with wet soil. No other damage I have heard of.
