new kit: canon 7d and 100-400mm lens

Unread postby RIAAN H » Wed Jan 04, 2012 6:06 pm

hi everyone!
i just bought a canon 7d and the 100-400mm lens.
i will only have one day to play without before i leave for Lower Sabie.
any tips for me people? which mode to shoot in etc.
its quite different from the 400d which i am using at the moment!
edit: which model of LOWERPRO bag will be perfect for this kit? or is there any other brand that will be better? i plan on buying a bag without having the body or lens with me :hmz:
thanx in advance

btw: do you guys think i made a good choice with camera and lens?

Hi Riaan,

I've got the same set up and it's an excellent combination! I used it in KNP in September and got some good pics. If I could work out how to post pictures I would!

I'm a relative novice so I tend to stick to Av mode and try to maintain F6.3. Occasionally I brave Tv to maintain a higher shutter speed, especially for birds in flight.

The lens can be a bit soft at 400 so I usually pull it back very slightly to about 380.

I started with the 400D and found the transition quite straightforward.

For a bag I've got a Tamrac 5630 Pro-Digit Zoom 10 which is great for carrying the camera and lens together plus lots of accessories.

I hope this helps?

I'm GREEN with envy you're at Lower Sabie tomorrow!

Hope you have an amazing time.
