Your Favourite picnic spot?

Unread postby huntsman » Tue Dec 27, 2011 12:28 am

Camps are vital, but a great picnic spot can really crown a good day and an essential part of my Kruger experience.

So, which floats (or sinks) your boat, and why?

Crested Val  agree totally with you but would like to add Mooiplaas - early morning before the hordes arrive! Who knows if an Ellie isn't lurking behind a bush or tree???

Pafuri is the best . Beautiful , tranquil , majestic trees , birds , on the Levubu river .

It seems as if most people vote Pafuri as their favourite.

I am sure that a great deal of the attraction towards Pafuri is because of its tranquility and the lower number of visitors in relation to other picnic spots. This makes me wonder if the regular visitors to KNP have a general feeling that they would prefer a little less visitors to have a more relaxed environment even though we all know that the future existance of the park is directly coupled with visitor numbers.

I am definately one of those who would prefer it if there was less visitors that is the reason why I prefer to visit the northern parts more often.

Well,

Pafuri has definitely moved to the top of the class, but what about further south, folks...

Nhlanguleni is one of the best simply because its off the beaten track so invariably you find you have it to yourselves. The skottels there have also taken less of a bashing so not likely to malfunction and in Winter one has a view of the waterhole - nothing like breakfast with an elephant and a thin little railing demarcating the picnic site.

My best one has always been Mlondozi picnic spot. Great views and nornally quiet.

13-16 April - Satara
16-19 April - Biyamiti
19-22 April - Lower Sabie

Can't Wait !!!

I also love Mlondozi - amazing view of the river and another firm favourite is Nkhulu.
Would be nice to upgrade the rickety tables and chairs though!

It's actually amazing how well we remember our picnic stops...

Perhaps it's the combination of food, rest and birding, but there's often a really good vibe there for some reason...

Clean toilets, shade, a chance to stretch....hmmmmm!
