Anybody know Anthony Hall Marthin? Is he still alive? I heard he was a game ranger in KNP for 13 years? I went through a custos magazine and saw he took pictures of all the magnificant 7!!! Wow what a legend. His last book was published in 1997.
Made my booking for Desember 2014!! Whoohoo

I read in Bruce Brydens book (a game ranger remembers) that he and Dr Anthony Hall Martin worked together a lot.
He also talks about a guy named Paul Bosman who painted the magnificant 7 after Dr Anthony Hall Martin took pictures of them all.
Can anyone tell me if the pictures inside Letaba reception was these paintings?

Passing of Dr. Anthony Hall Martin.

Unread postby gmlsmit » Wed May 21, 2014 7:05 pm

It was reported by Africa Geographic that the time had come for Dr. Anthony Hall Martin, the well known scientist, ex National Parks Board employee and Elephant expert.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Anthony Hall-Martin, conservation director of African Parks, this morning, 21 May 2014.

In communication with African Parks, we were told that Anthony died peacefully surrounded by his family in hospital in Somerset West where he had been admitted as his prolonged struggle against cancer came to an end.

Chief Executive Officer of African Parks Network, Peter Fearnhead wrote: “Anthony has been a mentor, colleague, friend and inspiration, not only to myself, but to all at African Parks since its inception. My colleagues and I are devastated at his passing, but we are also thankful for the privilege we have enjoyed in working with him and benefiting from his wisdom, wit and guidance over so many years. He has left a significant conservation legacy for the world and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.”

We at Africa Geographic join Africa Parks in extending our heartfelt condolences to Anthony’s family, knowing that his drive and determination has inspired many to face the immense challenges of wildlife conservation.

Maybe the most famous of his books is "The Magnifecent seven" co authored by Anthony Hall Martin and the artist Paul Bosman.

May he Rest in Peace and his legacy live on together with the Baobabs of our Low veld.

An inspiring life.

May he rest well and his family be consoled.

Very sad news.
Still cherish my Magnificent Seven elephant book -- my favourite animals.
Spent so many cold wintry days looking through those 2 books and reading Dr Hall Martin's wise comments on elephants in Africa.
Every time I drive in Addo, it reminds me of how he "tamed" the Addo elephants so that we can ride INSIDE the park, and not outside!
God be with all the relatives.

As a youngster I learned most of what I know about elephants from Dr Hall Martin. A true conservation pioneer - may he rest in peace and always be remembered.
