We had a glorious visit to Addo yesterday (17/12/2011) and had the pleasure of see LOADS of elephants at Hapoor, but we saw something a little worrying, a young female elephant maybe a couple years old, with a very sore hind right leg,it appeared to be grossly swollen and she couldnt put it down at all and was hopping around on 3 legs, I am wondering if anyone has seen her or knows anything about what happened to her?

Thanks Qcumba,
Our rangers are aware of this elephant and are monitoring her condition.

With this type of circumstance where the elephant is so hurt would nature be left to take it's course, treated or would it be put down humanely?
One of the zebra's had a sore front leg where the skin was removed and looked very black it was hopping around on three legs but seemed happy to eat, but doubtful if it could outrun a lion.
What is the parks view on animals that are severly injured?

Usually leave it alone and let nature take its course. The lions have to eat and take out the weakest.

I don't know if it's the same Ellie, but a badly injured one was shot by rangers near Hapoor in late December. Apparently it could not walk anymore.
