This hyena has spent a lot of time in the water today. I've seen them cooling off in the waterhole before, but this one spent an hour in the water earlier and another hour now - seemingly sleeping at times!

Any thoughts on whether this is abnormal behaviour? How come it's not in a den with the rest of its clan?

Seen it a number of times, especially at Satara. It is hot and she's cooling off. I also got the impression that she's heavily pregnant, so the water may be some comfort.

Rutting Rams

Probably just exercising. The rut's in winter. Looks like youngish rams. In winter it is quite a thing to hear them roar!

Kori Bustards back at Nossob

I have another question: are Kori Bustards territorial? We rarely see them on the cams, and then all of a sudden we're seeing them often at Nossob...? :hmz: :D

Wonder if it could be an AWC? My ID books don't give the back of the ears :D

:funny: I'll post this to the Addo thread and see if Ronnie can shed any light

This is a very difficult one to call

The Genet has bigger ears in relation to its head size than the AWC and are rounded at the tips.

The Genet is a smaller animal than the AWC.

The AWCs are very similar to the domestic tabby cats but are slightly larger and they do readily hybridise resulting in a variation of colours and markings found.

The AWC’s ears are smaller in relation to its head size than the Genet but are pointed at the tips.

Here are my pics taken of the AWC and Genet

I took this pic in the 1980’s of a Genet in the wild

I recently took this pic of an African Wild Cat in a rehab center

I hope you find this info useful in your decision of.........

1) Is it a Genet
2) OR is it an AWC

Hi JJ! Seeing that there is a hyena right in front of the cam just half a minute later, I'd say they are two of the spotted species as well.
