The S65 really does it for me and I try to drive the road whenever I am in the south of the park.
Have had some wonderful sightings including the Big 5!!

MM - The S65 is a sand road that leads off the S1 (Phabeni Gate to Skukuza)

The S65 is between the S1 (Doispane road) and the H1-1 (Napi road)

When in the south I always travel this road. It has given me fantastic sightings over the years!!

July 2011 - first ever sighting for me, a honey badger feeding off an impala carcass that was abandoned by a leopard earlier.

Excellent sightings!!!

I have seen Leopard at the river crossing on the S65! And in general it a very productive road! I am a big fan :thumbs_up:

We have never really seen anything out of the ordinary on this road but we love it and always drive it several times when in the area.
One day our time will come!

I have seen golden kitties twice, and if you check my TR you will see the two leppies I saw on the riverbank in Dec. This is a BIG 5 road for me :thumbs_up:

In march 2012 we had the second doggie sighting of our trip there - with some puppies

Great leopard sighting...

When you are on the S1 from Phabeni to SKukuza(H11) the second gravel road to your right. It links the S1 and H1-1 (Napi road). :thumbs_up:

I haven't seen doggies on that road yet-a new mission for me then! :dance:

But at least you saw the doggies! I just love the South (Especially S65, S2, S3 and S1) We are mostly day visitors so we just stick that side...

And my story begins.

My dad, my sister and I were driving on the S1 looking for game.
My mom was sleeping so she told us to go with out her.
Big Mistake!

So, as I was saying.
We were on the S1 and we saw a car stopped at the junction with the S65
We quickly asked them what hey were looking at and they said the worst words to us that any kruger spotter wishes to hear.

" you just missed a leopard, it crossed the roads in that direction. Towards the S65"

we had about 45minutes left so we decided to go and look for the leopard.

We were driving and about 2kms down I found myself showting
""
Leopard!!
it's running!
WAIT!
2 leopards!
Wait
5 Leopards!!??
""

We stopped the car to see what was going on.

Turns out we drove onto a pride of 7 lions.
Not only running but KILLING a zebra!!

It was the most amazing experience to see the lioness fighting on the back of the zebra.
And to listen to the distress calls of the zebra!
It was incredible!

Sadly we had to leave due to gate times.

Now to the best part.
Waking up my mom and telling her what she missed!

I love it when mites post special sightings.
Thank you. It just makes one realise how lucky one is to be able to go the park and potentially see such magnificent wildlife. (Even if it does increase the yearning factor significantly

)
