Hi my husband and I have booked to stay in Bontebok at the chalets for 2 nights from 2nd December and are really looking forward to it, we are coming from Scotland (via 5 nts in Cape Town) and we've booked our hire car etc...I would like information on any supermarkets in the area before we get into the park so we can stock up on basics (& beer/wine!) We are really looking forward to spending time relaxing in the park, it looks stunning :D . Can someone please give us an idea on what to expect weather wise and if anyone has any other tips we would be most grateful...Many Thanks

Warm welcome to the forums, Tobago :D
I know of at least one supermarket in the main road of Swellendam, which is very close to Bontebok NP. I think they sell beer and wine too and if not, you will find a store nearby to stock up on that. Almost all the shops are in Voortrekker Street.

Wishing you a lovely time at Bontebok !

Welcome to the forum tobago.

I see you have asked similar questions on other threads, so I will answer them all here for completeness sake.

Bontebok is just over 2 hours drive from CT, and you might consider stocking up at supermarkets in CT, especially as you might get there at 'odd' hours.
Canal Walk near CT on the N1, is open until 21h00 every night.
Birding is great at Bontebok, so I suggest you get a good birding book. As you are 'doing' quite a lot of the country, you might just see quite a few of the 950+ species in Southern Africa.
You can swim in the river near your chalet.
Weather should be hot, but cooler at night.

Ebb & Flow - Just past George, approaching Wilderness, there is a huge shopping centre - Garden Route Mall, if I am not mistaken, where you can get supplies. Look out for the Knysna touraco!
Hot weather, but it could rain.

Addo safari tents; You need your own pots, cutlery & crockery here, or eat at the restaurant!
Hot as well, but it could rain & cool it down.

Please ask more, if we have not fully answered.
Enjoy it!!!

Swellendam has a brand new Checkers - one of South Africa's best supermarket chains.

Dear Tobago,

Swellendam is the nearst town to Bontebok National Park and is located about 7km from the park. There is a wide variety of shops to choose from when in Swellendam.

In the main road we have a big Spar shopping centre where all basics can be bought including beers. Spar is open from 07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Sunday. (Although beers and wine is only sold until 17:00 on a Saturday and not at all on Sundats) Across the road from Spar, Swellendam is boasting with anew small mall with a Checkers supermarket as mentioned earlier. They are open from 08:00 till 18:00 from Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday from 08:00 till 15:00.

Bontebok National Park also has a small shop that sell basics including wood, cooldrinks and chips.

Hope you enjoy your time at Bontebok.

Kind Regards,
Marloise
