In Hazyview stop at Shoprite, just after you turned right on Kruger road.
Its the biggest shop in town and has a liquor store next door.
It has lots of woollies goodies as well.

As suggested previously, the Riverside Mall is your best option for variety and decent prices.
I have just recently moved to Nelspruit and have been doing my rounds at various shops to see which is better. Checkers in Riverside has everything you could possibly need, including a great wine section & there is a bottle store in the centre as well.

Their meat is very good and they even have BRM ribs - all the way from JHB factory.
The best wood u can get is in the Kruger itself.
Every camp sells it, even the bush camps.

Let me know if you need a cooler box & ice bricks.
I have just started a hire service which could save you the unnecessary cost of buying one for the short period.

Berksi, I make use of Pick n Pay, Hazyview if I am going to use Phabeni Gate. It is conveniently on the way and offers good prices. I always stock up with a barbeque chicken, fresh rolls and salad for my first night. It is good value and saves a lot of hassle.

I have also made use of the Shoprite, and it is really good value.

Is the Shoprite near the Pick and Pay in Hazyview, we haven't seen any other food store

hi. I remember you! Yes, it is in the same centre, almost next to pnp, altough almost behind it. It is situated in the under cover parking area. We have a great butcher here and i must say, it is a clean, huge store

Thanks EcoJunkie! Is that alongside Riverside Mall or on the opposite side of the road?

The Value Mart (which has a Fruit and Veg City too) is on the same side of the road as the Mall.

Others may like to know that a Makro is opening soon, on the opposite side of the road!

Have to also be careful as you no longer go through Nelspruit, the bypass misses it, so if you are not looking for the offramp you will find yourself through there before realising.

BerkiSA,
There is a very good liquor store at Riverside mall, second entrace, used to be called Platsak, now a well-known franchise.
I would shop at Checkers, they also have a large selection of good wines, but you cant beat Woolworths for quality foodstuff.

Hi folks,

I'm wondering, as the title says, whether there is a large store for food and various supplies (candles, coolers, utensils, etc...) - We don't want to drive too much around Johannesburg when we arrive, and know it is least expensive to stock up before getting into the park.

Any guidance on good places to go (route or town??) that won't have a great deal of traffic
congestion? (we will also be getting used to driving the 'wrong way'!!! :>) , so it is kind of a safety thing too.

Thanks for the help!

Morgandy, Eco Junkie knows this area well and I have recently been staying in Malelane and Croc Bridge.

Malelane has a very decent shopping area which should allow you to buy all your provisions. Pick n Pay tends to be one of the better priced shops and you should be able to get a lot of your provisions there. It also has a liquor outlet if you wish to buy a bit of the more "spiritual" stuff.

Komatiepoort, the town before Croc Bridge gate also has a very good Spar where it is possible to stock up on most things. These are both pretty small towns, but they do focus on the bush tourist market.

Morgandy, another option is to stop along your way from the airport to KNP at Highveld Mall. It is an 'easy one stop shop' off the N4 in Emalahleni in the Mpumalanga region. There is an Outdoor Wearhouse there too where you will find coolers etc etc.

Does anyone know the best place to buy a cheap but decent cooler box, either in Jhb or on the way to Malelane gate? Flying in from the UK and ideally want to pick one up on in Jhb or on the way to Kruger so we can keep all the shopping cool on the way to camp.

Cheers!

Kirsty, you should find one at the Pick n Pay at the Mall on the N4 (link in earlier post of mine).
Other shops in the Mall that will have at Sportsman's Warehouse, or Outdoor Warehouse.
Mr Price Home is also a well priced store ... not sure if they have cooler boxes tho.
But if you stop at the Mall, you will have some options as far as choice of stores to visit.

Malelane itself has an excellent Spar where you can get all your shopping in one store
They sell collers, ice-bricks and charcoal as well as all the normal grocery items, meat and booze :)

Welcome to the forums

Hi Dutch,

May I suggest you look at a NEW map of Nelspruit and surrounds - use the NEW bypass road which brings you out on the road to White River.

There is a new Makro - Outdoor Warehouse is easily accessable and there are two SPARS - excellent meat and prices reasonable - Bottle stores also available.

Back on the same road to Malelane or Komatiepoort

Have a great stay at KNP
