What a great performance of that cat! And such wonderful pics. It looks like a young leopard. Reminds me of our leopard-little pumbaa sighting last november. Can't wait for our next trip in three weeks time. Your pics makes the waiting much easier to bear.

Wow! What a great sighting!

I really didn't know that there were cane rats in Kruger! My dad was in Kruger last week and was having breakfast at the Skukuza day visitors section and he said that "large rat looking things" were running around his feet. I was like: Huh??? what animal is that? So he must have seen cane rats then?

Truly amazing pics Anne-Marie. Thank you for sharing.

You have also answered a question for us. When we were eating dinner on the verandah of our Satara bungalow in August, my grandson called out " Nana, there's a rat running round the table". Now I love wildlife with a passion but with two notable exceptions rats and mice, hence I leapt up from my chair screaming, much to the amusement of SO and grandson. It did eventually run off again but I am still having nightmares about the experience! At least I now know what nearly forced me to sleep in the car that night. Certainly I had never seen one before...hopeful;ly not again either.

Great pics Anne-marie.....just proves what opportunistic predators they are. Guess that is why they are so successful.

Hi anne-marie,
Now that's different. The only other photos of a Leopard carrying its lunch I've seen were with an Impala. Great photo.

 it was a great sighting... I stay until he finished and vanished through the bush... he searched several time to climb up a tree, but no tree was big enough... for my pleasure (not for the kill... for the pictures)
he ate exactly like a cat... shaking the rat etc... superb opportunist predator :D
