I wonder whether there are more Kruger “types” than only these two under discussion - the tickers and those who stare into the wide open spaces …

I have to agree with Bush Baptist, we are MAXIMIZERS with a little bit of ticker and spaceman,
plan your trip for the day, get up early, appreciate every aspect of the Kruger whether it is a stick insect or a pride of lions, take in the smells, listen to the "silence" and enjoy your trip to the fullest, then when back from the day drives, a shower first then a fire is started, supper is cooked, then more logs are thrown on the fire and we sit around the fire and discuss what we saw today and plan our trip for tomorrow, we only go the Kruger once a year (due to work) but we enjoy it to the fullest!!!!!

Good one, tent dweller

Then there are the minimisers. Possibly not found on the forum.

They find their spot, erect their satelite dish, open a beer... another beer... complain about poor cell reception, party till two am.. then pass out.

Get up at noon, in time for the rugby, scream at the kids.. who are driving those plastic bikes..
spray the tent with doom, to kill the bliksem insects.. and start the fire.. open a beer.. and another beer.. complain that Kruger is going to the dogs... open another beer...

Interesting thread!
Few years ago definitly the biggest tickers of all, driving like crazy people from A - B just stopping for the Big 5! :slap: .............
That all changed the day I got a Bird guide for Christmas  Nowadays we are avid birders, not on the dot alot of the times, but we're trying. IMHO - Kruger is alot more than just driving from A-B. When was the last time you stopped at waterhole/dam and just sit there for an hour? / In the middle of the road just listening to sounds of nature? Try it sometimes, you'll be surprised how alive the bush is!
P.S. - Do not try this in the popular winter months, you are bound to cause a traffic jam.... :)

During school holidays such as December months the profile of the Kruger goers might slightly lean towards “tickers” as there may be more energetic children with sharp eyes in the Park to spot the animals than for example in January when Kruger is a bit quieter with slightly more “space people” around but I guess “maximisers” are well represented in the Park throughout the year :D  .
