Terry-Lee, a very warm welcome :D

I have seen Wild-dog most of my last visits.

From my experience, the south, Malelane and Croc Gates are possibly the best place to see. I have however seen close to Talamati.

I would say that southern Parks possibly has the most packs.

My most regular sightings have been close to Croc Bridge.

Hi Terri-Lee,

If you go to the Board Index, look under Special Interests/Mammals and you will find a huge section under the heading " African Wild Dog". It is a wealth of information, including recent sightings.

Sorry, I don't know how to create a link to it. I hope this helps.

Hello Terry-Lee.

Have often seen dogs early morning on S1 (Doispane Road) after entering at the Phabeni gate.

Take me with you Terry-Lee.

I am a doggie magnet

I have seen them on my last 6 visits to Kruger.

But if you object to this hard core old guy in your car (or can't afford me), try the Croc Bridge area (15 km raduis) BnD area, or the H7 and Rabelais dam area.

I'm sure we couldn't afford you, BB  . But, will be trying H7/Rabelais soon; hopefully your "magnetism" will radiate out and suck in the doggies.

We saw a huge pack of dogs hunting in summer (Feb) this year, just after gate opening on the H7 just outside Satara....

This month at about 9 in the morning on road towards Phabeni from Skukuza....

Howzit Terri-Lee :D :D :D
I was in Tamboti in June and didn't manage to see wild dogs, eventhough its a good area to see them

Book
Berg En Dal
Croc Bridge
Skukuza

If you spend time in those three you should have a good shot 8)
The packs have huge territories so one cannot give a specific road to try. But perhaps a couple of days before you depart drop EcoJunkie a PM and ask her where the dogs near berg en dal have been seen

My suggestion would also be to keep an eye on the sightings boards at the various camps and an ear to the ground to try and pick up on what others are saying.

As to the best time to see them, we have seen them first thing in the morning and also midday so I don't really think there is any hard and fast rule on that. :?

Good luck, will be holding thumbs for you.

We were visiting KNP for 9 years before we ever saw wild dogs so you can imagine how thrilled we were when we finally made their acquaintance. It was on the road between Croc Bridge and Biyamiti and we were on a sunset drive with Elliott. Ironically, we have seen them along the same road on every trip since.

I know others have seen them near Rabelais Dam, along the Doispane road and, last year, Susieb and SO saw them between Skukuza and Afsaal.

Good luck and we wish you every success in spotting them

If they're denning, the chances of seeing them in the same area shoots up dramatically.

I assume you're talking about the S25 dirt road, CarolV?

Great you've seen them so often there, CarolV. It's strange - and wonderful - to me how some people almost seem to be destined to find certain animals. :hmz: :hmz: I've travelled that road several times in the last few trips there and ... not seen a single dog. Perhaps we attract what we intend?? :hmz: :hmz:

That may be so OWN but I would always say to anyone going for the very first time (even afterwards really) that you should go with open minds and open hearts and really enjoy everything you see, big or small, as there is a place for everyone and everything in this life. Having said that, what would we give to see a pangolin...but there is a story behind that one!

Hi Terri-Lee

BB is pretty much spot on.

On our last visit in January 2011, we had 3 sightings.

Twice on the H7 between Nsemani dam and the dirt road to Girivana. Between 8:00 and 10:00 AM.
And once coming from Berg en Dal between the Steilberg Road and Afsaal, at about 7:00 AM.

The Sightings Boards were also regularly showing Wild Dog Sightings in these areas during our stay.

Hope this helps...
