Very nice pics! Pity you had so much dust there. Maybe next time just get out of the car and sprinkle some water?

Ah, yes Elsa, an honest & quite common view, but in this case, the Buff's did fight back, it was an epic struggle lasting around an hour from when the lions first caught sight of the Buff's to when the animal eventually collapsed. But then again, you'd feel sorry for a beautiful Lion if you saw that it was skin & bone hungry. Nature at it's most magnificent...

Yeah, a sprinkling of water seems to be the way to get the shots these days...after WTM's shot of the Wood Owl

It was a shame about the dust but from a photography point of view you learn from such experiences & I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it with my own eyes though (and not through the lens). I'm also glad that we managed not to get hit in the stampede (the main reason I never got any shots as I was driving... :x

Oh absolutely, Wondercloak, I agree wholeheartedly, its just a silly personal emotion, something I have to overcome and accept in my overriding passion for the bush and all its inhabitants. :)

Unbelievable pictures. Truly amazing.
I agree with you Elsa about watching a kill. As much as I love the bush, and I am truly addicted, I actually dread the day I see a kill.
I have learnt to live with that and recognise that bunny huggers have a right to their emotions as well.

I saw something that I believe is quite rare and it was quite amazing although compared to the stuff you guys have seen, this is probably nothing, but I was thrilled. Close to Olifants I saw a korhaan doing its death defying mating dive. I couldn't believe my eyes. It flew straight up in the air, turned and plunged towards the ground and I thought it had a death wish and wouldn't make it. My son explained what we were looking at (I was a baby birder then) and said that it isn't often seen. Although we had a camera with us, there wasn't time to take pictures. Pity as it would have been great to have caught that.

I've seen other great stuff but that topped it for me.

We once came across a steenbok ewe with a very small lam busy to suckle right next to the road. We watched and photographed them for approx 5 min when another vehicle joined us. And then for no apparent reason they ran of in different directions at the speed of lightning.
Once I have mastered the art of posting photos I will ad it here.
It is one of our most cherished moments of Kruger.

I can understand that this sighting was very special to you luislang. I've never seen a young Steenbok, I think they remain hidden most of the time, but can only imagine how tiny and cute it must be. Thanks for sharing. :D

Everybody wants to witness a kill, and I have been privileged to witness many, but has anybody witnessed a birth?

I wish to share my rarest sighting, a once-in-a-lifetime sighting.

In 2005, we visited Satara for 5 nights. Early one morning, at around 06:30 am we encountered a splendid serval sighting in the road. We were approx. 5km North of Satara on the H1-4 tar road. But wait, there's more to this...The serval was accompanied by no less than 5 little kittens. We sat in awe as the servals walked across the road; the mother a bit nervous and the 5 kittens bouncy and energetic. We watched them for 5 minutes before they disappeared into the marshy terrain from which they had came.

Bitter-sweet though, as none of my photos came out!
