Probably that IE9 LS - on my IE8 it works just fine.

Submitting Highlights

Unread postby Deeds » Tue Oct 25, 2011 2:43 pm

I know this is a very old topic but I am at my wits end!!! I submitted highlights by clicking on the yellow banner above the webcam picture. I thought I had learnt my lesson about posting empty water holes by actually closing the website after I have posted a picture and then going back into the site. However, I see that now two different pictures have been "posted" by me when I wasn't even on the site. Please someone tell me how not to get embarrassed when I see that I have posted empty waterholes and have 'over-posted' a good sighting.

That is easy, Deeds :k
Just don't be embarrassed ! You did not do it deliberately.
Perhaps practice at this when there already are empty waterhole pics ?

Deeds - What happens lately with the highlights is the "picture" is updated by someone else, but your name remains as the "highlighter" until you refresh the WEBCAMS and not the TAB. To refresh the highlights, just click on WEBCAMS (green) on top of page, rather thanreloading tab - then you won't inadvertently highlight an empty waterhole.

Post Highlight, then changes automatically.

Unread postby FCLORDAN » Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:38 pm

Hi

Sorry guys, I posted a highlight at Addo earlier, interesting big animal at the water, maybe buffalo. Anyway, later I looked again and my highlight is gone and now is just the waterhole with no animals. Taken later. Why did my highlight automatically change?

Sorry again, there was a cool animal...

Hi FCLORDAN and warm welcome to the webcams in particular
and the forums in general!

I'm not really sure, what you mean though.

Two scenarios that happen quite often:

A mite presses on the highlight button, but while the message is conveyed
that you want to save this particular cam view, the cam angle chances and
often you get the next picture.

Second possibility is that you submitted something and somebody else
came along, saw the same thing, also pressed submit but was too late as
described in the first scenario.

If it's the latter, rest assured - nobody does it on purpose.
It has happened to the most of us.

BTW, sometimes peeps will post an empty waterhole to hide a rhino
that has been submitted to highlight and which shouldn't be done.

Hope that helps!

save a highlight

Unread postby Joria » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:58 pm

When I save a highlight sometimes, then it change without me saving again, and then under my name, sometimes taking a good viewing away. Can somebody tell me why, and what must I do to prevent it.

Joria, welcome to the forums!

Firstly, thanks for watching the cams and submitting highlights!
Much appreciated, especially when there is nobody around to post the pics on the forums.
It's always great to come back and pick up what was submitted to the highlights at
the bottom of the page!

As for submitting the highlights - there is nothing you can do to prevent somebody
else overwriting your highlight. Especially with a magnificent sighting like the cheetahs
that we just had at Nossob. There are many people around who watch, some only switch
on their computer and get all excited about what they see. Then they don't check if
there is already a highlight, but try to save it for all others to see.

All done with good intentions!

Happy camming! :cam:

Hi Lionspoon, thanks. It is actually happening under my name without me actually saving it then. I saved a highlight once or twice, but then it is changing again as if I'm the one saving it, but I didn't. It is quite embarrassing if it looks like you overwrite your own good sighting!

Sorry, I got that wrong.

Well, then you probably submitted a highlight and then updated the same
page from which had submitted the highlight. Does that make sense?

Let's try it this way: When you have submitted a highlight, you need to
open the webcam page all over again in order to prevent overwriting your
own highlight.

Addo Elephant wrote:Due to the current rhino poaching crisis in South Africa, we would like to ask all cammers not to post any sightings of rhino seen on these webcams on this forum.

If you post a sighting of a rhino, the date and time and sometimes even the identity of the rhino will be recorded for all to see.

In most of our parks, rhino sightings and references to rhino have been taken off sightings boards, maps and brochures and we've previously asked forumites not to post any details of their rhino sightings (location etc) on the general forums.

We can't stop forumites (and the general public) seeing rhinos on the webcams but at least we can stop it being recorded. Anything we can do - no matter how small - to help stop rhino poaching is worth it.
