Hi AM,

What a nice picture you've got there.
I don't know the answer for sure, but this is my guess:

3. Uhhh, Martial Eagle adult?

:hmz: my guess is pretty much the same as yours anne-marie

3. Looking at the bird's face I first thought a juvenile bateleur...but the legs kind of threw that theory out. So yes I think I agree with your suggestion of a Tawny :D

anne-marie,

This looks like an imm African Hawk Eagle. The tail is barred, and the underparts rufous brown and upper parts spotted with white which is normal for this imm birds. The legs are relative tightly feathered and the eye is starting to change to yellow.

because of the barred tail... :?

Why not just plain African Hawk-Eagle.
Not Steppe or Wahlbergs to me.
The underwing colours are pure Hawk-Eagle.
Nice pictures too.

Hi! Could use a bit of help with this guy. Not the best of pics - he/she was quite far off - so a bit cropped. Saw this bird on the S41 near Satara end of June.
