Coco what great news

To add to the list of reading you should check this out:

Its a summary of all the camping places in Kruger's facilities. since what you need might depend on where you camp.

Coco, you don't need a kettle or cooker top, there is 24 hour boiling water and electric stove tops in almost all camps.
You will need a blue adapter for power though.

What a long list.
I have my own list, which is also long, but take specific items for a specific trips. Mine list serves more as a memory jogger. In the columns have dated and named the destination of the trip.

you can't rent a tent to pitch yourself but you can book a safari tent, which is a permanent tent with beds inside. Why do you specifically want to camp out of interest?

If I were you I'd book the 1st week in August in Tamboti. There are 2 and 4 bed tents available for the whole week, and you won't be sorry. Closer to the African bush you won't get! All you'll need is your own plates, glasses, food and wood... and something to wash your biltong down with.
Each tent also has it's own fire place.

We have camped in the Kruger for 30 years now, and I must say if you have a good tent,blow up beds or stretchers, may be a gazebo etc you should enjoy it to the maximum. Choose a good site where you are able to get electricity. I really hope you have a wonderful time. We have even got a small fridge, a heater for when it is cold and a fan is a must if it is extremely hot.

We once camped at Lower Sabie many years ago and it was stinking hot the one night, and in those days we had no access to electricity, so we just sat outside the tent for the whole night, and the following evening we were forced to take a bungalow ha ha!!!!

I am going on my first safari in August and have several questions before I book. really have heard great things about the Satara camp, but only camping accommodations are available.
And by this, I mean "real" camping in a tent.
Do I need to bring my own, or is one provided/put up for me?
Are there restaurants/restrooms available for campers?
I realize it will be pretty cold, but maybe worth it? Thanks!!

Camping means either bring your own caravan or tent,
Can be coldish at night but the days can be very hot.
Plenty of clean ablution blocks with usually hot hot water.
Kitchen areas with hot plates sinks and always boiling water for coffees/tea
The restaurants and take away and shops are for all the people in the camp and those passing through .
Go for it we will be in KNP in August too ...camping

you won't be living in luxury at all!
Will be an authentic bush experience to camp in Kruger
I'm going camping in Kruger for the first time in June!
So exciting!
The Satara area is my favorite in the park and you are sure to enjoy seeing many animals

There are so many great camps that if you don't want to "camp" then you wouldn't be losing out by changing camps to one that has a hut or accommodation more fitting to your desires and needs.
I believe anyone will tell you that Lower Sabie, Mopani, Letaba and more are all very desirable camps.

Also, depending on how long you are going to be in Kruger you may want to experience more than one camp. It is very typical that people stay at one camp for a couple of days then transfer to another one as each has a very special "personality" to experience.

Hiya, and a warm welcome to the Forum, Sunflower.
You can have a 'camping' experience, as some of the camps provide fixed Safari Tents, such as Tamboti, Crocodile Bridge, Lower Sabie, Skukuza, etc.
So the camping experience without the fuss. Enjoy.

So in two days time I will be in the Kruger
Will be spending 3 nights in Luxery at Tamboti
Then I will be camping for the first time at Shingwedzi!

So this is going to be an adventure of note! First time going to both these camps, first time in Kruger alone, and first time camping

So any advice on the trip??

These things I have sorted for the camping
1. I have borrowed my tent from fellow formite Mama Fariu and tested that I can set it up in my garden I
2. The apadter that plugs into the electricity box in the campsite
3. A spot light
4. a blow up matrass - that does fit in the tent
5. Food + charcoal + beer all sorted!
6. A hammer to slam the pegs into the hard ground.
7. My birdbook - lets see if I can represent for the ducklings
8. Plenty of warm clothing!
9. Flask and coffee
10. My yellow ribbon!

Am I covered?

Routes
At Tamboti
1. A drive up the s39 to Timbavati, then down to satara and back
2. An exploration of the Talamati roads and s36
3. A little excursion East of satara. maybe to Nwanetsi

the drive between Tamboti and Shing is very long so just sticking to tar roads 220km!

Shingwedzi
1. Mphongolo loop + The h1-7
2. A drive to kannidood
3. A drive to Red Rocks to the lookout point.
4. All the little loops around Shing for an afternoon drive

Make my way down to Palaborwa before driving home

Any advice regarding these roads?? Speak up if my corsa lite will have difficulty on any of these roads!

My advise would be, choose your location carefully. Shade would not be a major issue at the moment, but make sure that your tent is not at an angle. The first time I camped, I slept up a hill. Toes and head should be at more or less the same level.

Other than view, check how close you are to ablutions and the hot water. The swimming pool should not be an issue now, but it can be a bit noisy if there are children around.

I like to use a headlamp. Its great for reading and leaves the hands free when braaing.
