Hi Peeps

Going to KNP in August and can't keep myself from drooling at the thought. Mauxie asked this already but didn't get a reply so thought I'd give it a shot: We're booked in the Safari Tents in Lower Sabie and were lucky enough to get a LST2UZ tent. I was wondering which one of 21,22,23 is considered the best. In the end I'm sure any of the 3 will be great but I need to keep myself occupied with planning so that the time can pass quicker!

Ravvie, if you look at This Map
I would say off the top of my head that # 21 looks the closest to the river but never having been fortunate enough to stay in one of them yet, it would be a guess.

Hi everybody
Booked 3 nights at Orpen next year. Can anyone recommend a chalet (BD2) that has a good view over the little webcam dam?

Leana, if you have a look at This Map the water hole is in front of the swimming pool, so basically I guess any of the low number chalets would have some view but its not really a great view as I recall.

Thank you Elsa :D
Although I know Orpen very well, we usually stayed at Tamboti. Did you stay at Orpen before and in what number? If one ask for 7 or 8 or 9, do you have an open view to the bush?

We stayed in # 7 & 8 if I remember correctly and no, didn't have a view of the water Hole but from the pool it was wonderful. :D

Leanawel,

I have stayed in no 10 before. Unfortunatly there is a tree infront of no 10 which makes it very difficult to see the waterhole but in my opinion i would go for no 12. Nothing infront of this unit and it has a wonderful view of the waterhole and it's also far away from the noise of the pool and traffic going in and out of orpen.

Be sure to leave camp at gate opening. This tar road going to Satara is very busy with predators early morning. We saw a huge pride of lions on our sunset drive and again the next morning standing in the middle of the road. Lovely camp and i'm sure you will enjoy.

I have been going to Kruger on and off (more on lately) and in my naivety, I didn't realise that you could request specific bugalows etc (though I realise it's only a request and can't be guaranteed)

We have the folowing bookings:
Skuk BD2
Letaba BD2
Skuk BD2E

Can anyone advise what to ask for?
Last time in Letaba we had horrible position near laundry and pool. Felt very cramped in.

Would have liked diabled but you can't book that online too far in advance.
Wonder if I could change?

Thanks.

As far as I am aware, you should be able to book the disabled units in advance by emailing reservations. They are held back from release to the general public until 1 month before, hence the reason they do not appear on the reservation system. If you have a need of them, you should be able to request them at the same time as your other bookings.

Unless other people know differently?

Morning All,

With two weeks to go  we are trying to find the "best" locations but I'm struggling with finding a couple of places on the camp maps, so hope some can help!

Looking for BD2N on the map at Satara and best location within.
Lower Sabie we have BD2U, i know it's perimeter but what numbers on map?
Mopani we have BD4, from reading here I believe either 49,51, 101 or 102 will give best dam view?

Any help gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Maddie,

BD2N in Satara is the A-circle.

Hi Raasblaar,
Welcome and congratulations on your first post.
For the BD2V at Satara number 173 is the closest to the fence and best in my opinion as when braiing you will be 1-2 metres from the fence. We stayed last year and while braiing had a couple of hyenas beside us for a smell,(no dinner from us :naughty: ) and one that just lay down to sleep at the fence. Also 2 honey badgers outside the fence although the resident ones also tour the camp. The numbers a couple either side are also great so when requesting give 173 as ideal but choice a couple either side. As 173 is a bit forther forward you can't directly see your neighbours when sitting on the stoep.
We have requested it for later this month but have yet to hear if we are successful.

Enjoy!

Hi Forumites.

I have tried to email the contact for Satara rest camp specified on the link which is at the start of this topic, however I get a delivery failure which seems to suggest that gladstone has left.

I am trying to reserve a particular bungalow, does anyone know the email address of the camp contact I can request this to please?

Thanks All.

In Lower Sabie, the BD3U and BD2U bungalows are very nice. Upgraded and with a very nice river view.

I don't know if any of the accommodation in Satara has been upgraded yet - haven't been there in 2 years, so they should all be in more or less the same condition. The BG2 bungalows in Satara are a bit cramped in my opinion. It's better to try for the BD2 units.

Can't help you with the other camps unfortunately.

In Satara the perimetre bungalows only.

BND no 25. There is a resident leopard on the other side of the fence.

Lower Sabie the tents overlooking the river.

Hi BerkiSA,
The bungalows with perimeter views at Satara are coded BDV2. We stayed in a BD2V bungalow at satara in March this year. There are 2 semi circles of bungalows. The first semi circle goes from number 161 to 167 and are between 5 and 25 metres from the fence with 161 and 167 the closest. The second semi circle goes from 167 to 179 with the 2 outer huts only 5 metres from the fence, whilst the ones in the middle are up to 50 metres back. Also this semi circle has numerous trees in it, so is a bit more shady . If I had a choice I'd go for 167.

Heres a photo showing numbers 161 and 162

and this one shows 167 and 166

At Mopani, I believe there are just 2 of the BD4 bungalows with views over Pioneer Dam, Nos 49 and 51. We stayed in 49 and it was fabulous, this is the view from the patio area

Hope this helps - have a great trip

Higgsie
