SPAM via PM

Unread postby DuQues » Thu Jul 03, 2008 8:59 am

While we are doing our utmost to bar and ban spammers of all kinds some do manage briefly to have an account, and do their evil.
We now had the first case of SPAM via PM, at least the first known case.

Moderators can not read your PM's, so what to do if you receive this? Exactly the same as when you receive insulting or other PM's that do not conform to the rules of the forum, please mail or PM it to one of the moderators.

We'll have the spammer banned as soon as possible. But we do need your help with it, not reported is not seen by us!

Thanks in advance.

Those of you who received PM spam from goodluckmary, don't worry, we wished Mary good luck, and banned the spammer from the forums.

Thanks to those who warned us, unless the spammer is very stupid he/she will not send spam to moderators, so we will not notice it.

ROFL!

Now that wasn't very smart of this spammer from Hanoi, Vietnam... He sent me this message:
brendar7639 wrote:Hi, I am a new member of forum. Would a newcomer be warmly welcome here? Good day you guys!!!

(Link removed of course)

Now sending that to a moderator is rather stupid I think...
He's banned and deleted, but PM's to you may have been left. You don't need to report this less than smart spammer.
All other however, please DO! Not all are stupid enough to spam moderators.... ;)

Just to bump this topic to remind you. There are people registered we do not trust, but we have no proof that they are spamming.

Of course they might be, but sending the spam to inactive members, so it's okay then. Sort of. ;)

But if you get hit by spam via PM, please do not delete, but inform us!

I forgot....

Since we went to the newer version of the forum software you can report PM's as well.

Just like at posts there is a button on the left: Image

If you hit that the moderators will be able to take action, like against spammers.
Keep in mind that if you report the PM we will be able to see and read it though. With spam that is of course no problem, but with PM's from normal members that can be less atractive to you.
A screenshot with bits you want to keep private greyed out will of course work in that case.

:bmp:

A week ago a spammer was sending spam PM's, two were reported. We had already banned the spammer by then though.
But remember that we can not see PM's, and that there are a few logins we do not entirely trust.

So if you get spam via PM, please report it!
