22 April 2011.

We arrived at Orpen gate at 1.00pm and drove the H7. Saw the usual impala and zebra. At Nsemani Dam we found a hippo and calf grazing.

Image

Image

Miss Sharifa commented that I have put her under undue pressure. What if she did not spot any leopards on this trip.

I told her if she did not, she will get to drive

Further on an African Hawk Eagle in the distance

Image

At Ngotso a nursing Hyena.

Image

Image

Image

We arrived at Olifants and settled down and got the braai going. It was good to be in Kruger.

23 April 2011

We were out at gate opening time and headed south on the H1-4. The SANP Morning Drive Vehicle was parked off. There were two lionesses in the distance. We moved on and got a hyena running towards us.

Image

At the intersection with the S127 we met Zelster at a rhino sighting but they were far in the bush and not good for pix

We took the S127 and S39 back to Olifants. We found a Black Backed jackal.

Image

The southern end of theS39 has a pride of lions that we have seen many times and amongst the pride is a lioness we have named One Eye.

Today she was on her own :hmz:

Image

Image

Image

Image

She got tired of us and headed off into the bush

Image

Further on we saw a steenbok.

Image

Thereafter we met up with Elzet.

We got back to Olifants for our meet with anne-marie, Bushmom, Bushbaby30, Bushbaby75 and Lowveldboy and had a very pleasant afternoon :D :D :D

At camp the red winged and glossy starlings were picking off scraps off the braai grid

Image

Image

On the afternoon drive we headed north on the S93 and found lappet face vultures fighting for a perch

Image

now just to setlle down

Image

there you go, this is my perch

Image

a white fronted bee-eater

Image

and on the way back a tawny close to camp

24 April 2011.

We planned a very short drive this morning to Ngotso and back as we had a River walk at 9.30am.

A beautiful sunrise

Image

We turned around at Ngotso south and at the Nyamarhi spring I spotted a LIT. Pressure was really on Miss Sharifa now

Image

Image

Image

As soon as another car arrived he was down the tree and disappeared into the bush

A hyena crossed the road in front of us. My what fearsome teeth you have

Image

We got back to camp and got ready for our walk. Joshilewis and his SO were on the walk with us.
The river walk is a mid morning walk and only takes 30 minutes plus about 30 minutes drive to/from walk. It is designed to find the Pel’s Fishing Owl in the area but we were not in luck :(

On the afternoon drive we met a lot of mites on the road to Balule.

Tshukudu, RobertT, Ducol, Michel367, Sprocky, Vlakvarksegat

25 April 2011

We were out first again and decided to take the S90 south and then the infamous S100 to Satara as there was no need to rush back to camp today.

We found 3 different sets of nursing hyena and then at Bangu waterhole plenty of impala. The youngsters were testing their legs and running all over the place and we spent 15 minutes with them

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

The Bangu area is known for cheetah sightings but again we were not in luck or so we thought

Thank You Bushbaby30, TheunsH, Pumbaa, Bushmom, Lionspoon

About 5 Km south of Bangu we found a herd of Zebra and there were a few foals.

Image

Then the zebra got nervous and we sensed a predator nearby.

Across the road from the zebra

Image

He crossed the road and got downwind of the zebra

Image

Image

Image

Then it was all concentration

Here we go.

We could not believe the speed with which this cat moved and he left us in his wake. The foal got away but this is a scene that will remain with us forever

A disappointed cheetah :(

Image

he sat down to get his breath back

Image

It is difficult to describe a scene that took 40 minutes to unfold with a few pix. Sharifa tried video recording the chase but just was not possible.

Oh and he that get up again and rushed into the long grass. We did not see him again and it seems like he caught something, possible a hare :hmz:

Thank you Wanderw, Micetta, Bushcarft, Roaneric, Katja, Cheetah2111, Touareg

We moved on south on the S90 and saw ellies, zebra and wildebeest.

Impala on the S100 and this little bee-eater :D

Image

We stopped at Satara. Now we had already met Bushmom, Bushbaby30, Bushbaby75 so we were shocked to find Bushbaby1 in the tree where the scopsie normally sits

Image

Scopsie was in another tree for today

Image

3 entangled giraffes

Image

That evening we hooked up with KTF Hooked and her SO and had a wonderful time together :D

26 April 2011

Today we were moving to Lower Sabie. We were all packed and at the gate at 5.30am.

At the gate we met CaliforniaDreamer and also KTF hooked

We headed towards Satara. We met anne-marie near Girivana.

Our plan was to take the H7 and then the S36 all the way down and hopefully find some sable.

At Nsemani dam we found some waterbuck drinking

Image

We met Zelster on the H7 and he told us about the vultures/hyena feeding on a kudu carcass

Image

and also that the doggies were near the turn off to the Maroela camp so we thought, why not and headed that way and found the doggies

Image

We now took the S140 and S145 to join up with the S36.

Yep, those ruby red eyes of the BSK are enchanting.

I was hoping to complete this TR before Saturday 14 May as I am going to be away on business for 2 weeks but doesn't look like that is goinf to happen  . Will see if I can post while I am away

Today was an action packed day.

It started with two buffs having a real go at each other on the S28. These guys were not playing and you could hear the banging of horns …OUCH.

Image

OUCH...

Image

Image

The road was quiet, not a single car from Crocodile Bridge :hmz:

Eventually we met up with the Bushbaby family and they told us about the lions on the Vurhami Bridge.

Image

We weaved in and out and soon were on our way to Mpondo dam where we planned to spend the rest of the morning.

Before Mpondo we saw a Bateleur.

Image

Image

We parked off at Mpondo and the plovers were not happy with us and tried to mob our car

Image

so we moved further along and we saw the   water skier
