Storms River is one of our favourite parks and we visit it often. But, it is busy. One is struck by the continuous arrival of cars,combis and buses; one is never alone on the forest trail to the mouth; the number of different accents and languages one's "Good morning/afternoon" elicits from passersby and the shoes, the shoes speak of the variety of nationalities that walk the beautiful walkways of the park.

If one is fortunate to stay over in a chalet, cabin, oceanette or in the magnificent caravan camping area, the sheer beauty of the ocean, forest and rugged coastline becomes so overwhelming that it literally dulls the senses that remind one of the hustle and bustle of day visitors and their transport. The thunder of waves exploding on rocks and reefs, the continually changing sea vistas, the keen anticipation of spotting a school of dolphins or a pod of whales or a feeding Clawless Otter, draws one's attention away from one's petty observances and sensitivities towards a fixation on and fascination of the sheer majestic beauty which is inherent to this park. And one becomes humble at the thought of having the privilege of sharing all of this with other people.

AndreB, I perfectly agree with you and towards evening it gets quiet and you have it all to yourself

I seldom visit the coast , unless my destination is a national park .
Storms River has won my heart - even more so after completing the beautifull Otter Trail in May 1996 & late Dec - 1 Jan 2000 .

Arks, I am not quite sure, but I think it was 4b. There is a whole row of cabins starting from the parking lot. the first ones are of course to avoid because there is too much confusion during the day, but the rest are very nice and the inside, which is open plan is far better than the ones on the other side of the street, which all need refurbishing.

Lovely pics all ....now I really can't wait to get there.......will be staying over at Storms in a few days time .......our last visit was in 2006 and then the suspension bridge was closed due to maintenance. It was our first visit and we stayed in the Oceanettes.......we had dolphins swim past every day.......simply awesome. This time we will be staying in a family cottage.

Micetta, I have to agree, when you light your braai fire in the evening....it is just so perfect........ you feel like you are in the most stunning place in the world.
