On the 25th of April I will be spending 1 night at Tamboti and then I'm heading down south to pskop, I was looking at taking the s140 and then the s145 to join the s36. My map doesnt show that the s145 near talamti as a no entry road and a couple of books I have read havent mentioned it to be pvt either, but a couple other books have said it is a pvt road.

So I would just like to know if the s145 is a pvt road.

It is a public road , it was a private road untill some 18 years ago .

PUBLIC. I always travel this road whenever I go to maroela or back from there. even travelling from Satara south, I make a detour to orpen and then down this road.

Nice ellie sightings, very friendly ellies, they love running after you , Sable is also regurlarly sighted as well as lion. Not much general game, but awesome birding opportunities.

i agree general game is quiet but be on the lookout for wilddog at intersection with S106 and around Fairfield.

Thanks for the replies guys. Strange that 2 relitively new books say its still a pvt road. Im glad it is public though because of the chance of Sable sighting, plus it shortens the quiet long trip down to pskop.

I have a honeyguide from 2004 here, and it shows as normal road?

My Mapbook shows it as public but my Getaway guide to kruger and Prime Orgins guide to exploring kruger both Mention the s145 as pvt. Thats where my confusion comes in, you would think when you aer publishing such books you would get your facts straight

There should be no private roads in Kruger. We all pay the same entry fee.

We drove these roads in late Feb with lots of expectations and saw very little, even the Impalas were scarce.
The grass and bush was just so thick and long in places that it was impossible to see more than what was actually in the road.
But, things change and being in the right place at the right time is what its all about.

Can anyone help please.

1. What is the latest condition of the S140 - S145?

Have read reports the road is incredibly badly rutted - is this still the case?
Would dearly like to see Sable and/or Wild dog.

2. Where do the Sable generally hang out?

Need info this morning as we are leaving Olifants at 8:30am, driving out Orpen Gate need to be in White River by 4 or 5 pm.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Warmsunshine, most of my Sable sightings have been on the S36 which was also badly corrugated in Sept this year. Jones se Dam on the S36 was the place I spotted a herd of 13 in Sept this year. That might be a bit too far south for you. Just to whet your appetite here is a pic of the herd bull crossing the S36. Friends of mine also saw a Sable bull near Shimangaweni dam (S36) in Sept this year as well.
