I would have to agree with several of you that the Mahonie loop is my favourite road. I have never seen much on it mammal wise, but the birding is incredible and the scenery is worth it on its own! There is a certain "feel" to the road, as if you are going to come around the corner and find a pack of wild dogs fighting off 7 leopards while a white lion cub watches from an anthill.......you don't of course, but you don't care either :D
The Mphongola is also fantastic but I must admit to always being very apprehensive on this road due to several "exciting" elephant experiences in the past. If you don't know how to reverse on a narrow road...don't do this road

My vote goes towards the S28 & S130, I almost always seem to find Rhino and Lion there.

This remains a very interesting topic to read although the last posting is a little bit in the past. I assume the famous top 5 Kruger roads remained the same. One that I can mention is the Mahonie loop at Punda Maria. On one trip we saw amongst others Elephant, Lion, Buffalo and Wild Dog within an hour on this very beautiful and peaceful loop. I wish I was there now. Those who are - enjoy! :D

Hi ossendryver,

You made an interesting selection. At last you mention "from Letaba to Shingwedzi". I assume you mean the H1-6 tar road. I personally have had better luck when moving away from the H1-6 and taking S48 (Tsendze loop) instead and further north I had better sightings on the S50 up to Shingwedzi.

Hi flying Cheetah,

You made an interesting selecion:
S50 – I like it too, but the section in the middle (near Nyawutsi) can be a bit dull.
S25 – top predator road
S28 – White rhino, reedbuck, cheetah and lion road
S44 – scenic road, but I never had much luck in terms of mammals and birds there.
S56 – also one of my favourite roads – last January I found a female leopard with her two cubs there

Hi BB

The S100 is a good game-viewing road - but I think it is a bit overrated :hmz: and traffic can be very heavy  .

While being in the Satara area I prefer to take the H7 (very good for cats and dogs), the S39 (Timbavati river road), the H1-4 (Witpens and Ngotso waterholes are predator hotspots) or the S126 (Sweni road).

Good choices all around.

My contribution:

s28 (Saw Duke, 4 Lions and later Lioness with older cubs)
H4-2 (Not only does it set a beautiful tone as you come through CB but also saw Leopard, Cheetah and Black Rhino in the space of 10mins)
s100 (Never disappoints)
s91-s92 (Beautiful loop road near Olifants)
Mlondozi Loop (Can be light on the game but a great feel with the long bush, did see jackal, kori and ostrich my last trip on the road so not all in vain)

I see a lot of posts mention the s25. I drove it last year but other than a stunning experience watching an ele taking a mud bath not much game. Any tips on the best part of the day to drive this route?

My favorite 5:

1. S39 - Timbavati Road (together with it's extension on the S36)
2. S30 - Salitje Road - first memories of Kruger is of this road
3. S35 - near Orpen Dam - always have good sightings there
4. S120 - Steilberg - just because it is so quiet and scenic
5. S25 - Crocodile River road - never dissapoint.

The S25 seems to be the most popular.

In terms of famous roads I think the following roads fall in that category:

Lower-Sabie to Skukuza,
Crocodile Bridge to Lower-Sabie
Orpen to Satara
The historical Voortrekker Road and
Letaba to Satara

I think Grantmissy is on it.
The five most famous will be the five busiest roads.
Skukuza-Lower Sabie H4-1
Lower Sabi-Croc Bridge H4-2
Malalane-Skukuza H3
Phabeni-Skukuza S1
S100

but those are not necessarily the best in Kruger
My favorites
S28 CB-LS
H10 LS-Tsokwane
H7 Orpen-Satara
H1-4 Satara-Letaba
S39 - Timbavati river road

S30. Saw a cheetah with 5 cubs and 2 lionesses on the same drive on that road once.
