This isn't exactly "weather" but in a closely related category. Blue moon seen on Orpen cam -- closeup thanks to Danie.

I thought it ok to post this here.
The Addo Webcam faces south in the direction of Port Elizabeth and the light you can see on the horizon is that of the Port Elizabeth Metropolis shining on the bottom of clouds 50 kilometers away. At the time this web image was taken on Friday 21st Jan 2011 a Cricket ODI Test Match was being played at St Georges Park, Port Elizabeth between South Africa and India. Those of you who follow cricket will know that the match had to be abandoned because of rain shortly after this webcam image was taken.

Now that is interesting, Ronnie! I always wondered, why there is different lighting on days with approximately the same weather conditions. A lot of it depends on how much light is 'transported' up from P.E. :hmz:

Thats it LS,

It also depends on how clear the low atmosphere is from Port Elizabeth to Addo, e.g. if there is mist coming off the sea it will block that light from Port Elizabeth to Addo and that is the reason why sometimes you will see the light and then it suddenly disappears as the mist moves in.

Thank you, RonnieL, for that information, I did wonder which direction the cam faced. Didn't realise PE is so close.

The distance I gave of 50 kilometers is "as the crow flies"
and is about 70 kilometers if you travel by car from the center of Port Elizabeth
