Just spent two nights in Biyamiti - there are sooooo many ellies and rhinos around - unbelieveable!! The local leopard is hiding at the moment, but there are a few lions around and another couple found them 50 Meters away from the gates. We had Nr. 5 - it was so lovely - saw a big herd ellies with small ones in the riverbed and enjoyed the peace of the camp. From the lookout point we saw 3 Rhinos with her calf walking towards an ellie-mom with her little one. It was an unbelieveable sightings when they stood head to head an finally the ellie moved off....

Hello Rookie and anyone else that has advice.

Im off at the end of November to say farewell to my father who loved the Kruger. What I would like advice on is I have a unit with a view, can anyone recommend which unit has the best view of the biyamiti river ? Someone recommended number 2 as you can see right up the river, is this true....any comments welcome.....

We stayed at #2 in August and I can certainly recommend it, we had a nice view out over the riverbed - having said that I believe all the cottages with the 'V' in the code would have a pretty good view.
It's a wonderful camp and just can't wait to get back! I do hope you have a good trip.

it depends a little bit what type of bungalow you have. is it 2+2V or 5V?
Remember that all the 'V' bungalows have view but we were once in nr. 1 but that was a little noisy because of the generator but 7 8 and 9 are really great!

There's no doubt that Biyamiti is wonderful for a child, and can be 100 percent great for other visitors who've chosen this quiet, peaceful, wonderful camp. On the other hand, for those parents who believe their kids have right of way, and need to exercise their lungs and legs after an overlong day in the vehicle, I'm less enamoured. Last time we stayed there, two families/groups of friends, had booked huts either side of ours. Ours was the thoroughfare for three kids under five. I have had kids and am fully understanding of the issues surrounding them, but it's the lack of parental supervision that's the issue. I'm not an old grump, I just choose Biyamiti in my, sadly, single annual trip to Kruger, and choose it purely for its solitude and quiet. While appreciating that I don't own the camp, I do think those who go there, go there for the self same reason. Usually.

AnneS , I agree & sympathise with you - what a disappointment to have your much anticipated holiday in paradise spoiled .

Kids at Biyamiti can have an awesome time - but remember to always respect the fact that others have paid to enjoy the quiet tranquility of the camp.

My clan is always respectful and quiet in bush camps.

The picture was taken by my sister inlaw about 2km from the camp entrance. My wife was shrieking at me to reverse the entire time, but the dance continued.

I've only stayed in Biyamathi for one night and found that the monkeys can be a problem. One came into the lounge area to grap a breakfast bar, while we were packing the car. The reason why I mention this is that a 2 - 3 year can be very inquisitive towards any moving thing and might run towards the animals without realising the danger. Children older than 5 year old might take the necessary precaution but not a small child.

I had the experience of my son being bitten by a rockrabbit (dassie) when he was 3 years old. We stopped at a site in Mosselbay where a lady feeds the dassies on a daily base. When my son got out of the car he ran towards the dassies. They all scattered away as expected, but suddenly one turned around and ran to my son who was holding out his hand and bite him on his hand. I was worried about rabies and was quite dramatised by the event. Luckily Western Cape is not a rabies area and he was OK after a plaster on the finger.

In Kruger animals also get used to being fed by some stupid people and will easily approach a small child. A while back a small boy was bitten by a hyaena at Balule and had to be rushed to a doctor outside the park.

My advice to you is to keep an eye on the boy when he is playing outside and when you in the chalet to make sure the doors are closed. This is not only applicable to Biyamathi, but all camps in Kruger.

Enjoy your trip and just keep in mind that you are in the wild.

Yes, there are sockets for recharging, no problems at all.

Both roads are very interesting and you can have great sightings there. I would take the shorter route to get to the camp and do the rest of the S25 during your stay. Enjoy (I'm sure you will)

Go in from the Malelane Gate and along theS114/S25 then you will be in the park that much sooner! it's 11km longer, but you don't have to drive all the way to Croc bridge first! Keep an eye open for leopard along the Biyamiti private road if you arrive in the evening . . . .
