KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

The only Rhoda I could find was the farm Rhoda that SANparks looked at to buy.

If it is that Rhoda, I don't know how it was destroyed. Mining???

Sincere apologies ndloti. My remark was intended for another quiz where things were going rather slow.

Foot & mouth disease broke out in Moamba in Mozambique in 1937 and soon after that in the Komatipoort area . Initially all cloven hoofed animals between the Hectorspruit and the border were destroyed .
There were many cattle herds outside the western KNP boundaries and the few remaining local residents kept a few cattle at their kraals at various locations , rangers had a few dairy cattle and the Parks board kept about 30 cart oxen at a location on the Sand River about 7km north of Skukuza , and this was where the wardens three cows were kept .
The foot & mouth outbreak was contained for a while untill a veterinary inspector discovered the disease amongst ranger Ledeboers dairy cattle which were destroyed and foot and vehicle wheels passing Satara were disinfected .
The disease seemed to have been contained but in November 1938 it again broke out on the farm Toulon adjacent to Skukuza . The next day Rhoda the wardens prized dairy cow was found to have the disease .
In December all of the approximately 3000 domesticated cloven hoofed animals in the KNP were destroyed and from then onwards no domesticated cloven hoofed animals were permitted in the KNP .
