So, heading up to KTP tomorrow with a stack of 31 novels(8 of which are Afrikaans) and 30 field guides, bird, animal books etc, a box of National Geographics from my parents and a box of Getaway magazines. Raided my own bookshelf and the kids convinced me to take a trip to our local 2nd hand bookshop and spent a couple of hundred rand...

Will be meeting up with KG at TR on Sat or Sunday to hand them over. Will post pics on my return.
Cheers

My pleasure :) - I'm SUCH a bookworm its wonderful to have a project like this to contribute to. I hope they'll enjoy them - the novels are a selection of thrillers, some westerns and got 3 Wilbur Smiths in Afrikaans which i'm sure they'll enjoy. Also put in my old copy of "Twilight" that I hope someone will enjoy - any female rangers/guides in KTP ? 8)

Dear all

The VHRs are very grateful for all donations made to KTP through this project and would like to ensure that each and every person who makes a donation is thanked accordingly.

We ask you to either post of your donation here in this topic, or if you would rather keep it out of the public eye, to PM one of the mods with the info. This will also help us keep tabs on what is going to KTP as part of this project; and we will be able to include the value of the donations into our stats of what the forum community donate to SANParks.

So as promised, now that I know how to use photobucket - here are some pics from my last trip (promised Jan I would post them). First pic is the pile of books prior to packing them - there was a box of Nat Geo mags and a box of Getaways too - Please note the TWILIGHT BOOK on the top of the 3rd pile from the left ......the pile on the left are Afrikaans novels ( they were snapped up - don't think they made it out of Twee Rivieren ), the middle 2 piles English novels and the pile on the right were field guides and bird and animal books....

Image

4 days later I went into the shop at Mata Mata and saw this - I was so pleased and asked her if I could take this photo - Mary was so thrilled to get this to read she was halfway through it already - I gave the books to Jan on Sunday afternoon and they were delivered on Monday - how's that for service ....

Image

PLEASE carry on this amazing project - the guys are genuinely thrilled to have new reading material and please don't forget the ladies - there are MANY in KTP - wives of rangers, reception and shop staff, - who would love a good romance or 2 as well...

Put the word out there and ask everyone you know - friends, relatives - to contribute PLEASE - they especially want those field guides !! I'm sure there'll be someone willing to take them up to the park for you..

Kgalagadi Management, Henriette (P&C Department) and I would like to thank ALL forumites which have been and still is contributing to the KTP book project, you have no idea how much it is being appreciated by the camp attendants and by the guides.

All books (Magazines, Novels ext) are handled by Henriette, all field guides and nature related information books will be handled by me. All information books (field guides) are been recorded and from there I place them accordingly to the Wilderness camps, currently we have enough bird books (thanks to the forumites which are donating 11 Sasol bird books),

To make sure that books distributed fairly I have all allocations on record, any forumite is welcome to have a look at where I have allocated the books to. Books which we are looking at now are: Trees, mammals, stargazing, insects and other related information books.

As mentioned before on this tread we all would like to give a book to your favourite camp attendant, but please rather bring the books to me for otherwise at the end of the day a camp attendant might sit with 3 bird books.

Again KTP thanks you for your open heartiness and willingness to help.

Thanks

Will see if I can find any of the books mentioned.
Should I donate bird books somewhere else now? (like KNP etc)

joshilewis,

We can never have enough books, I can always forward the books to the respective reception areas as well as the staff members which are on the roads the whole day (Maintenance ect) since they will also appraciate the books. We also do have a well established 'book store' here for staff members to go and do some reading.

So please I dont say we dont want them I will just utilize them on ather departments.

Thanks so much
