would appreciate it if we could get ANY old wildlife books (not magazines) send to me for distribution to the respective camps and to start the guiding department’s own research facility.

Please give or send them to
Jan Kriel
Head: Field Guiding
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
South African National Parks (SANParks)

Try to give books about the Arid wildlife. And it doesnt matter if its old.
But important to give them to Jannie. Its understandable that you want to give them to your favourite guide/attendent, but Jannie will do the distrubtion and he knows best who is in need of what. :D

Before I load the bakkie can anyone tell me if Readers Digest condensed books, Readers Digest magazines and Getaway magazines will be any use? A friend has a book exchange and has offered me quite a few of the above. She is also sorting out some fiction paperbacks for me too. I have so much else to pack that I don't want to take anything that is not going to be any good!

just returned from staying at a couple of the wilderness camps and I took the opportunity of speaking to the guides at Urikaruus, KTC and Grootkolk about their preferences; Afrikaans material seems to be preferred to English (but not excluded please), they all mentioned that they would love magazines; Huisgenoot, Weg were mentioned specifically and everyone said thrillers would go down well and perhaps a couple of field books; birds and mammals - hope helpful. I am a librarian and would be very happy to help where possible.

Does this help PennyJS

Thanks Dotty, I had picked that up but, apart from a few Huisgenuit that have been put aside for me, and the wildlife books that I have put aside for Jannie, the other stuff has been offered and I didn't want to turn it down if it may be of use - so thought I would just check. According to my friend men like the RD books because they are so easy to pick up and put down again when some more interesting activity comes along! Unfortunately most of her stock is English - strange because most of the people who live here are Afrikaans speaking!

Jannie can not really help out here, because this is not his department but he will try and get answers asap.
But in the meantime i understond that the WEG, Readers Digest and Huisgenoot will all be a nice read
All above mentioned can be delivered to Henriette at Twee Rivieren
But all mammel and bird ID books please delivered to Jannie.
Hope this helps :D

Thanks Bert, I'll divide the books as suggested. Can I leave them all at TR? Some for Henriette and some for Jannie. We will be arriving there on the morning of Sunday 3rd Oct but just stopping to check in / leave books and go straight through to Nossob.
Can't wait!

I am slightly embarrassed to admit that a lot of good passes me by on this forum, I tend to keep to a few topics and rarely venture out of my "comfort zone" unless it is something that irks me and then the curmudgeon in me steps out.
When requested to deliver a few books to KTP my attention was drawn to this great project and I realised that this time around I can help make a difference. A friend of 30 years had passed away recently and I was left with all his books, without space to keep them all this is a great opportunity to honor his memory as he was a great animal lover and I am sure he would approve.

Thanks for the heads up Jumbo, this is a great project that you have started  and I promise I will take a wider view on happenings on forum
Below is what will be going to TR on Saturday

Great stuff Sparks.
Where are you leaving from? I've got a box of books that's been waiting for 6 months or so.
