Ecojunkie, I wouldn't mind moving in with your little band

MM, they really are dedicated at free me, i have volunteered there , and they had a bushbaby when i was there. Whats really nice is that they release the animals who are healthy back into nearby nature reserves.

On the subject of repatriating bush babies to the wild..

I asked because a friend of mine with a greater bushbaby who lived in her garden (but sometimes came to her house for a snack in winter), was looking for a place that would repatriate the animal back it to the wild.(ie not near houses)

She phoned a reputable animal sanctuary who referred her to an expert in repatriating bushbabies. The animal was taken to this person who, apparently, far from helping her to live in the wild, locked her in a cage so that he could use her for breeding purposes.

All my friends emails, both to the expert as well as to the sanctuary that recommended him, remain unanswered.

She is extremely unhappy that she has caused an innocent wild animal to loose its freedom (and now knows giving it food in winter was probably not wise).

I cannot question whether what has happened to the animal is right or wrong as I dont know anything about repatriating bushbabies, but I do wonder whether people handing over animals to organisations, like the two my friend dealt with, have realistic expectations.

Are the organisations handling these animals being honest about their chances of survival in the 'wild'..and who checks that they are doing what they say they will do?

He/she only stayed 2 days.. I think it was too damn disturbing to have stange folks pointing all the time..

I agree, these are amazing little creature and I get a special thrill when I do see one - which is not that often.

There was once once sleeping so peacefully in a huge tree just outside of Satara's reception area. The whole world was ohhh'ing and ahhhh'ing at it as it just slept away in a fork of the tree.

We stayed in Skukuza last month and saw the greater bushbabies just behind the car park at the restaurant area - which was close to the laundry. The noise they make is so loud it helps to find them if you have a good torch.
