JJ, I don't do 'in the bank' if I can help it, or even if I get paid.

Elzet, I used the "transmission account" option, and it works.

Perhaps you should add the type of account to the details and links?

All is peaceful and quiet, well, as peaceful and quiet as Pretoria can be at this time of night, and I've just had a brainwave... Image (or is it gonna be only me thinking this way?)

In South Africa funds for the Road Accident Fund (RAF) are collected through a levy on motor vehicle fuel. It is enforced by legislation and Government.

No, I'm not suggesting another levy on fuel (puhhlease not!), but a levy when visiting any wildlife sanctuary, including Sanparks venues, enforced by legislation and Government - it is a mere amendment and promulgation to the current Act (OK, a few months from now).

And if administration of these levies on a broad scale is impossible, then surely all Sanparks destinations? Seeing that poaching has reached such serious levels, and that funding is required to put effective anti-poaching measures in place (read in a newspaper that the owner of the rhino recently killed is paying between R30 000 and R40 000 a month for 24/7 security guards), surely the current Wild Card system of Kruger can add an additional, relatively small levy on visitors - being it 'Day' or 'Stay' Visitors. And I'm not suggesting a huge amount, but a reasonable amount to make it worthwhile, such as R10 or R15 per daily entrance or R10 or R15 per nightly stay (Sorry Scips and Sprocks).

Then all other fundraising drives become superfluous, as well as the cumbersome administration thereof and money disappearing down 'gravy drains', and all visitors to a Sanparks destination are 'willingly' (ok, admittedly, coerced  )  into paying for anti-poaching actions and so ensure the future of our beloved rhinos and elephants?

Or am I dreaming and already asleep and not realising it...? Image And yep, I realise it is easier said than done, will take a lot of lobbying, but it can be done, surely?

Morning Elzet (you are probably sleeping by now)

I think you have a great idea with this levy thing. But maybe it can be simplified and done in a way that it does not have to go through the legislative proooooocess. If one could get the backing of a major commercial bank or institution in a similar campaign. Should, lets say Multichoice, add 10cents to their monthly subscription fee or a cell phone airtime provider add 1 cent to their sms costs per sms. At the same time the company would be getting a rather unique marketing opportunity and will in that way also raise anti poaching awareness on a massive scale.

Wildlife is a national heritage and everyone is responsible for its conservation - even the poachers will in this way make a contribution.

Hiya Painter :yaya: :yaya: (Wow   , you wake up early / go to bed late).

I missed you with seconds at 02:00 this morn'. Now I am up and awake and about. Full of energy I am. (I wish. *sigh*)

Brilliant idea you've got there!

I have another brilliant (?) :? idea... :hmz:

Tourism and poaching are symbiotic, right?

Right.

Well, in that case, to add to your suggestion above, why not increase the obligatory tourism levy with lets say 0,15%? For instance, accommodation and car rental makes provision for a 1% tourism levy respectively. So if you increase it to 1,15%, 0,15% of the tourism levy is paid over by SAT to Sanparks. A very simplistic, easy to administer method.

Hi Elzet ( I don't normally get up at that hour - SO was called out for an emergency and I couldn't get back to sleep. Actually sleep-walking right now)

Great idea about the tourism levy - but how does one go about getting it implemented? And will it be considered a non-taxable donation to Sanparks?

Perhaps it is not a cheque account? :hmz: Please assist and thanking you in advance.

Thanx for the heads up, Sparks.

Hi Elzet,
It's a savings account, that is most probably where the problem is at. Please let me know if you still cannot get the transfer to go through? :)

Imberbe, could you please supply us with name of the preferred vest (or specs) in the event that we can get it from another supplier (maybe at a lower price?) and therefore donate the vest instead of the funds?
I truly wish to help equip the guys on the ground 8) …but (will not elaborate on this on the forum) currently I will feel much more comfortable to donate equipment rather than funds…be it to SANParks, or the HR paying the bill of a SANParks preferred supplier.
