Guys... I am looking for the article but SANPARKS / Kruger has embarked on a massive education programme specifically aimed at educating people about littering. There was a slot on local radio where someone was speaking about it.

Just a FIY...

I will look for the article and post soonest.

We are, BH and other members included, working on the ideas and liaising with SANParks Micetta and will report back to you as soon there is something concrete to report on.

A great deal has to be considered - design, costs, printing, distribution etc.

To make this thing happen, we need someone who can draw cartoon-like characters. We need to turn the animals into "humans" for a bit.

Since I can't draw, let me illustrate with a thousand words.

The Kruger comic strip can be like 4 or 5 pages (maybe more, or less depending on how we can get the message home. I think it should be on sale in the shops and at entry gates. IN the shops, it should be on a level for the children to see and they will hopefully ask their parents to buy it for them to entertain them in the car during the day.

The messages should be to re-inforce and educate the rules of the reserves, with emphasis on the consequences of speeding, feeding and litter in particular. They could easily be translated into all the languages.

Scenario / Story 1.

In picture 1 a person, maybe a child or adult throws a cold drink can out of the window. Picture 2 A meerkat sees this and goes to investigate pic 3, His buddy (Timone-like) warns "Manny" to stay away because this is human waste and "bad for you". Pic 4 "Manny" sticks his hand in and it gets stuck. Pic 5. Now he cant scratch for food and gets hungry and sick. Pic 7. He tries to fight his siblings for food. Pic 8, Parents take hime to the meerkat doctor who says his hand is stuck and unless they cut his hand off, he will die from this human sickness. Picture 9. A sad looking family who are devastated by the bad news. Picture 10, the family standing around close to the rod with a sign asking for he humans plase not to leave their stuff lying around because it kills them.

Alternative or another story, a snake getting it head stuck in a can, and then not being able to see where it's going, gets run over by a car.

Now we do different characters for speeding and feeding, with similar stories.

The comic book should be reasonably cheap to produce as it is generally done on low quality paper (much lika any other comic book)

This should entertain the children and teach them and their parents about why we should obey the rules and not to tell them not to litter, speed, feed.

In the feeding one it's kinda easy because baboons can be shown as agressively attacking small children to get their food, maybe biting them in the process and then having to be shot because of the aggression. One picture can show a brief conversation between "Bob" the baboon (or "Mike" the monkey) and his buddy. His buddy can be saying something like "why are you waiting for the human food when you could be eating something healthy like me?" Bob says "human food tastes good and is easy to get." Maybe a trial takes place where the baboon elders tell "Boob" that he has become a lazy nuisance and will therefore have to be shot to protect the dumbass humans who don't understand.

I would love to do the story line.

Anything that can get the message across that there are serious consequences for the animals that people seldom see, as a result of them not following the simple rules.

Brilliant idea. Love the story line so far as well. It will be a hit (I think). I know a lady who is good at doing this sort of thing. Can find out what it would cost.

So let's do this thing.

The only difference between a goal and a dreamis the goal has a deadline.

We have all been witness to the roadkill threads, and said our bitin the speeding threads, andwe have voiced our opinions in the thread on poor bahviour.

I've even had something to say about litter and animals being shot because peeps are just so DUMB.

But venting will change nothing. We have to DO THIS. Sommer nou. (round about now would be good.)

M. Yes, I believe the "Spin Bin" is missing our valued contribution to the forum. I look forward to being able to spend endless hours scheming up junk.

Thanks for the update R. I never even knew there were samples available. I know it takes a loooooooong time in guv-ment cirlces to get stuff moving so, in the interim, we'll just wait until something happens and maybe fling a few bricks into the works just because we can.
