In my view I think it is often a case of being unaware of the implications of their action, Lots of people think not getting out of your vehicle or "protruding" is just to avoid being eaten by a predator and not thinking about the effect of changing the shape and outline of the vehicle. Television also plays a big part in putting their minds at ease, programs where big crocks are wrestled to submission and snakes taunted or guys walking in to lion dens on foot and calling them big lion to pacify does not help in creating awareness of the dangers that exist.

As for letting people sign a rules form at the gate or reception......Most of you have installed software on your computer and had to tick a box stating that you agree with the license ......And how many has actually read the licence agreement? A first time visitor to the park will sign anything just to get it over and get in to the park so they can get to see everything on offer. The frequent visitor has hopefully learned through experience.

Of course there are the real hooligans disrespecting every one including themselves by blatantly disobeying any rule they don't like and creating as much disturbance as possible..... The honey sounds good, pity we don't have bears but then we do have red ants, not as big but many more :twisted:

I'm a AHR. I think this might be a good idea of the sticker. Lets see who can help me with 3 basic pictures.
1.) Dont get out of car ( outline of car with person next to it)
2.) Dont feed animals (outline of animal with person)
3.) dont speed ( Speed kils)

I will bring it to the attention of my region commitee members.

I think the above 3 don't is the ones most broken

Hi everyone!

Great to see such enthusiasm to become proactively involved and to help SANParks solve some of the problems :clap:

Just a couple of points to keep in mind:

- The forum has its own HR region which all these types of initiatives must go through - this does not mean we cannot work with another region on a project - but please be mindful of the rules of the forums:- Rule # 4 here and here.

- SANParks guard their logo very jealously and it may not be used on any materials without approval from SANParks.

- There is a very similar project being discussed here which SANParks has already been approached about, why not join up there and add your ideas?

I think this vehicle bumper/rear window sticker has the potential to be the most visible .
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Exactly the type of sticker I was thinking about LD...except not sure about the "I'm commited" logo...smacks of mental health issues to me..sorry. Perhaps...'My choice' or 'Our Choice', 'Our Commitement'.
It would be nice to have the SanParks logo on it, and I think a Park name as well...with SanParks approval of course.
I do know that a lot of people don't want things covering their vehicle, so I was also thinking that one of those plastic cling on stickers for inside your car window...might be a better idea...they can be removed and reapplied as you wish. Your thoughts?
So how do we raise this with SanParks? Do we connect with the other forum group and offer this idea?
Canadian prairies...but prepping for some SA trips....

I suggest that you do yes.

There is a great deal to consider when embarking on a project such as this: - one is how to distribute the stickers; the staff at the gates have such a lot to cope with just admitting visitors, we cannot expect them to sell these too as it would have to be a separate sale if the money is to go to the HRs. Another is the funding up front to print the stickers.

So, a fair amount of careful planning before submitting a motivation needs to happen. Both ideas are similar in my opinion and could be worked under a single project.

Mrs Stark suggests something that appeals to the humor of all (okay...most) people.

For don't feed the animals: A stick figure chap (I'll call him Twiggman) with a bag of crisps, holding one out to a stick figure lion with a HUGE open mouth with BIG stick figure teeth, ready to chomp on our hapless chap.

For speed kills: Twiggman in a mini-car that is going so fast, speed lines are streaming by and he's just off the ground, flying by a speed limit sign and barreling towards a sad stick figure tortoise in the middle of the road. (sounds huge, but I can see it being a small graphic)

Don't protrude/get out of your car: Twiggman is at it again. This one might be a two-parter...Scene 1: Twiggman is climbing out of his car to get a view of distant (so tiny) stick figure giraffes in the distance. Other car drivers are frowning. Scene 2: Twiggman is chasing after his car, as a troop of stick figure baboons are racing off with it. Other car drivers are bug-eyed. (maybe lion from scene 1 is in the background...) :)

By the way, I wish I could draw. Mrs. Stark and I had a good laugh discussing these over morning coffee. :thumbs_up:

Good point about how to distribute the stickers...I was assuming the staff there since the campaign is created to enhance the park. However, it would burden them with more work, and that probably wasn't a fair assumption..sorry. Something to think about.

Stark...your ideas are a scream...totally agree with the humour- tis the way I usually operate...more people are likely to pay attention to them when they amuse...although the subject is serious- the point is still gotten across without being preachy. It seems in advertising now commercials become more classic if done humourously.

PNF, this is your initial motion, so I defer to your leadership, but am happy to assist you on this.

DB like i mention i'm willing to bring this idea under my region commitee members attention and see if they want to go with it or not. Seems the other group is busy with something very simmilar but still not the same and they are well on there way. Did put a reply there, waiting for there response. If there is a member of the VHR here please help us if i'm not permitted to take this idea to my region, maybe the two region's can do it in a joint effort.
