On the rocks in front of our bungalow at Mopani.Hope the ID is correct.

I saw a similar lizard in October 2008 at Mopani (chalet #101), but I thought that it was a rock monitor :?

Yes, correct i.d. Nannie. In fact, it is a male in his breeding (red) colours.
Imberbe = Combretum imberbe = Leadwood = Hardekool = The spirit of the Wildernis!

Yip, I thought he looked familiar! :wink: Thanks for giving me the correct ID. When I was there, he was very relaxed, foraged around those rocks for quite some time.

Close, its a Giant Plated Lizard, Gerrhosaurus validus. Nice big fat male in breeding plumage

I would say that is a Giant African Plated Lizard? Nice pic!
