OWN, that reclusive behaviour is typical of Grysbok, and they can appear very small...

The Skukuza suni were in a holding camp in preperation for their move to other areas, and started dying so a couple were released/escaped.

Certainly not Berg&Dal!

Punda may have been an area for them in the old days, but now, who knows?

I'm sure they are extinct in Kruger, IMHO!

I'm off to find myself a Suni. This time tomorrow will be in Suni habitat Punda, here I come.

Thanks, Richprins, for the response. I considered Grysbok very carefully, but the coat was a fair amount more reddish and we could not see any grizzling on the back. I have seen Sharpe's many times and this looked quite a lot smaller. I also considered juvenile grysbok, but the descriptions in the reference books favoured Suni a lot more.
Unfortunately, just as I lifted my camera, it sneaked gently behind a hillock, never to emerge.

As to your latter statement about suni extinction in Kruger, chat to the owner of the shop and restaurant in Punda, and he will detail to you how he saw a suni and fawn frozen in his headlights one night while taking staff back to their homes.

I saw a suni at 4.45am on the 31st december on the tar road about .75km from punda maria camp. The suni's eyes were reflecting off my car's headlights. This little suni was walking rapidly from bush to bush where it would stand still at the bush briefly before moving to the next bush. It definitely did not run from bush to bush. It definitely was not a steenbok, a sharpes grysbok or a common duiker as I have seen all of these on numerous occasions. This is my second sighting of suni, the first was many years ago on the sabie river near kruger gate.

I find it interesting that, out of all the claimed sightings of suni on this forum, no-one has been able to actually post a picture! Why would this be?

I was very close - i lifted my cam and, as I was waiting for it to switch on properly, the little guy walked behind a hillock. Close, but as far as anyone else is concerned re suni pics.

Fantastic, garrow! A suni for the second time ... that's amazing, especially as it is one of the rare 5, no?

I have read in many books that the Suni is the smallest buck in Kruger, and can only be found in the extreme north. I have never seen one, and have asked the rangers at both Punda Maria and at Pafuri private camp. They also have never seen one.

Has anyone seen a Suni, and what size are they. Are they much smaller than a steenbok.

I remember seeing one about 50 years ago near Pafuri picnic site. We could not believe our eyes! Never saw one again though.

Has anyone recently seen this delightful, graceful little buck? Any pics would be awesome too.
