The Sabie river was flowing with such force that it acted as a plug for the N'waswitshaka river, effectively turning it into a dam. The N'waswitshaka only has a catchment area of about 500 square km's but caused so much damage in the staff village because of this.

My guess would be two-fold. Firstly, because they're at the confluence of the two rivers, they'd be getting it from both sides. Secondly, when you have two rivers flowing into one another like that (I don't know the angles or anything, like a Y, or a T or whatever), you are likely to get a bottleneck, causing a damming there at that point, thus a slowdown and backwards buildup of water.

Not knowing the area, I cannot say which one would block which, but Imberbe explained that one nicely - thanks.

This is a very easy one:

What is Eusol and what would rangers use it for?

The question should be googleprufe Theuns. I knew this one wasn't - but just to keep the quiz going I threw it in there anyway. If you find it on google - no problem... I'll ask some more difficult ones later

Give us your answer :hmz:

EUSOL stands for Edinburg University Solution of Lime, and is used to treat severe wounds, preventing infection.

In her book, All things wild and wonderful, Kobie Kruger wrote about how they had to apply EUSOL on her husbands wounds after he was attacked by a lion.

A bit off topic, but just as interesting as the Sabie river question above. The Chobe river in Botswana flows into the Zambezi river, but when the Zambezi river is in flood, it actually pushes the Chobe back and it flows in the opposite direction.

 Interesting AWB... almost like the tidal rivers, such as the Goukou river, that flows back inland when the tide comes in.

At low tide collect your bait such as krewels, harder and white mussle... and when the tide comes in, catch all the saltwater fish that comes into the river looking for some easy meals. Grunter, Kob, Breem and Garrick.

Since it is an OQ, I will take it further.

When and for what reason, all the camps in Kruger were closed except Skukuza and Pretoriuskop, and after the winter season, only P/kop remained open.? All the roads to the north were closed.

Wasn't it because the rains made all the dirt roads all but impassable for normal passenger vehicles? But, more importantly, it was closed because of malaria, wan't it?

Nope, but I will give you a hint, it was not weather related
