Reviving the Camera Club

Unread postby bert » Sun Jan 26, 2014 2:37 pm

Hi mites, seems that our camera club is in slow mode so i would love to get in gear again. But which topics are populair and nice to talk about. I have seen many discussions about which camera or lens. Which are fine, but
with a little search on the web you will find expect and customer test reviews about almost any lens or camera being sold these days. These questions are still very welcome, but i will try to add the most interesting and usefull links i can find to help out. And any review from a mite will be very nice.

After judging a few photographic competitions during the past years i have noticed that much can be learnt in using the correct composition and depth of field. And sharp or unsharp. Have seen many great images where these factors were not used as they should be and thus resulting in a , what would have been great shot, not making it to the best 20 entries.
So i will try to discuss these issues with examples and would be great if the "expert" photographers our there will join, so that we can create a nice databank.

And as this is the camera club why not share your images which just do not justify your expectations.
And any animal or landscape picture will do. Not limited to SANParks or wildlife only. After all, learning to take the better images starts at home, so that you will be ready when visiting a wildlife/nature reserve.
After all, many opporunities only present them once, so be prepared 8)

Just received a great suggestion from saraf.
Why not start a monthly landscape competition as part of the Camera Club
Maybe the most difficult part of photography .

The Mods have approved this new landscape thread now. :D

It will not be a competition though but a topic to nominate your favourite scenery pictures. It will be intended for landscape, sunrise, sunset and night shots.

This thread will start tomorrow and I am really looking forward to seeing your nominations

It is like the threads we already have for animals and birds.

You can only nominate a picture that was taken by a member and posted on this forum.

How about a mobile phone picture of the month thread. Since most people have smart phones and new phones coming out with 41 megapixel cameras, this in my opinion would be the easiest way to get more people interested in photography and cameras as it would be the most accessible hardware.

I was discussing this with DB

viewtopic.php?f=75&t=74355

A decision doesn't seem to have been made.

I am confused at what goes in the Photography section and the Camera Club.
Seems to me a grey area :hmz:
