We live in the northern hemisphere in a very light polluted area, so the Kruger skies and the Southern Hemisphere are not something we know very much about. We will be in to Kruger late September, is there a website or somewhere on the Sanparks site that will give us info on what we should look for in the sky. Anything particular due to happen in the skies around that time?

We are staying at, Berg en Dal, Skukuza, Satara, Olifants and Mopani can you recommend any of the Sanparks drives or guides from any of these camps which specialise in stars?

Believe Olifants has a night drive/star gazing activity.

I did find the phases of moon on google, will let you if I find it again.

Have a great trip, don't forget your yellow ribbon.

Sadly the stargazing activity at Olifants was discontinued some years ago. Lourens, however, is back at Olifants and has considerable knowledge, so if you should be lucky enough to get him as your guide on a drive .......... Unfortunately, so far as I know, you can't "request" a specific guide.

Merlin11,

Here is a link to the Index - Astronomy and Meteorology with a few interesting topics about Astronomy and star gazing in Kruger that might help you when visiting Kruger.

I could be wrong but Ras at BnD has an interest in the stars, have a look at his posts from BnD and before that from Talamati. However it is unlikely that they will have the proper telescopes required.

It is such a shame. I was lucky enough to do the astronomy activity at Olifants and it was fantastic. It's just the equipment is expensive and very fragile so hard to maintain.
