hi,

I currently use the field guide to snakes and other reptiles (bill Branch) but if I'm honest don't find it very useful  the colour variations of the stuff i've seen make the book almost redundant and only gives me an idea of the family? anybody got any suggestions on what i should use in future? I prefer drawings to photos and also would prefer the text and distribution maps to be on the same page (or double page spread).

I'm from the uk so rely on a fieldguide to ID stuff. cheers

This one is good, and this one too.

If you can't find them in the UK you can order them easily from kalahari.net.

I agree, the second one indicated by Duques is excellent, and I find it useful to use it in conjunction with the book by Bill Branch.

Hello :)

I can also recommend the Marais book. I've been quite happy with it. It's not perfect, but it's as good as i've found.

Definitely buy any books in the UK- considerably cheaper than in SA!
