Anyone?

Its a female Zimbabwe flat lizard / Zimbabwe plat akkedis (Platysaurus intermedius rhodesianus). They are pretty common in that area, but next time you go, be on the lookout for one of the blue males!

Hi, what is the name of this creature? I saw it on the sink at Babalala in Kruger. (it looked dead to me)

It doesn't look dead to me, but it is a Tropical house gecko (Hemidactylus mabouia). They are quite common in South Africa (and in the rest of Africa), and at times you can see many of them congregating around lights while waiting for moths and other insects to come to the light.

Dear friends,
Two lizards seen in the Masorini Heritage Site, in Jan 10th 2011. I identified the first as: Common Flat Lizard, male (Platysaurus intermedius). And the second as Dwarf Plated Lizard (Cordylosaurus subtessellatus).

I'd like to ask for your help to confirm.

I'm also struggling with an I.D of a lizard. Seen on our bungalow in the North eastern Caprivi near Kasanglu.

My feeling would be a snake eyed skink, but that is as far as it goes...

Charbel, the "dwarf plated lizard" you photographed is actually a female or non-dominant rainbow skink (Trachylepis margaritifer). The males are bright green and orange, and the females and juveniles have bright blue tails.

The flat lizard ID is correct.

Ferdelance, I think the skink you photographed is tree skink of some sorts. I'm not entirely clued op on the Botswana/Namibian reptile species but I can at least say for sure that it is a skink of the genus Trachylepis.

Thanks!!! I did think it could a reinbow skink, but the colors were not matching to the photos I could find in the web.. The explanation is the one you gave, a female or non dominant male... I miss a good guide for Southern Africa reptiles....

A couple of lizards that I need some ID help with, please?

Is this a western rock skink?


and I think that this is an agama, but not sure which one?


Both seen in KTP in early November 2012.

Arks, the skink is definitely a Western Rock Skink. They vary a lot, and come in any colour from a golden brown, to pitch black, and then you have ones that are patchy gold and black, etc. The females and young males are actually easier to identify although they also vary a bit.

I'd rather not take a guess on the Agama. Being from KTP my first choice would be a Ground Agama (Agama aculeata), but I'm not 100% sure. You probably get rock Agamas and spiny Agamas there as well, and I can't see enough to make a positive identification.

The first is a female or young male rainbow skink (Trachylepis margaritifer)
Second is a male rainbow skink (Trachylepis margaritifer)
The last 2 are giant plated lizards (Gherrosaurus validus)
