Bushcraft, nobody gets banned for fighting for something when doing so within the rules of the forums.

Bans should be able to be challenged in the open.

then there isn't the same shame. Because members will make up their own mind if the ban is justified in which case there isn't shame, and if it is justified there will be shame.
The fact that every ban brings shame assumes every ban is just.

Do not forget members do not get banned for just breaking one rule - or for their first offence. The mods have said this over and over, members are spoken to via PM, get a pre - warning and two formal warnings (so a minimum of three requests to abide by the rules) before any bans are considered. In extreme cases where members constantly break rules in a short time, that member can be put into a cooler for a week pending a warning/ban.

So the reason for the ban is in actual fact at least four transgressions of the rules.

just a question of interest: if a member does get banned for a month does he/she have no chance to contact one of the mods because they can't login? Does a banned member have any chance to reply, answer or ask questions?

Email is the only way.

I am sorry, I have been following the battles and to's and fro's on the Forum now for weeks, seeing and hearing of people being banned etc. I have one question, which I hope is pertinent. Of what possible use is a poll like this going to be for the future of the Forum? Is it to discourage future transgressors/transgressions? To instill some kind of fear? To discourage future contact with "banned" forumites? Is it intended to encourge or discourage joining the Forum of new members? The answer is believe is NO to all of these. So, I believe this poll will be of little value, and should be discontinued. It is not needed and unnecessary.
Phew, did'nt know I had it in me! :slap:

Ok, I'll join and make he broodrolletjies?

I'm not sure yet, but I think spargish's idea is worth considering.

Those forums use different software. phpBB doesn't have that option build in, so that would mean that the developers would have to hack it into the code. That costs money, makes upgrading even more difficult and specialised.
It will probably query the database, heightening the load on the server, so I don't think it'll be build.

Just a thought...... the vast majority of 'mites appear to be in favour of a 'publish and shame' approach to those seen breaking park rules - and even post photos themselves...... Most of the people appearing in the photos will not have been 'warned' or even 'convicted'. What is different then in publishing a forum name after banning (for breaking rules at least 4 times and being warned each time)?

It's not really different, I think, ecojunkie  and I am not part of the "vast majority of mites" being in favor with whatever hall/gallery of shame but that's off topic

It seems to me it is not about name and shame, it is about the sudden disappearance of forumites who have made a contribution.

Isn't the simple answer, to ask the banned forumite whether they want the rest of the mites informed? And then, if so, the reason why? Two simple questions.

Most will opt for yes, just because we wonder what happened when people disappear.

When people are banned for various offences in the magistrate courts etc in the UK it can be published in the local papers :hmz:

Yes but that is when people have broken the law and newspapers are interested in covering court cases.

These bannings on the forum are subjective and judged by the mods. So, naming and shaming would be quite wrong.

Missing, I agree with you!

If "publish and shame" is the purpose for making banned members names public, then I will change my vote to no.

As the moderators have confirmed, the only name that will appear in the thread will be the username of the forumite. No personal details will be made public.
