I'm here as I live and breathe all things Africa, especially SA. I bore my friends and family with plans and stories and I love this forum as i am able to learn and share my passion with like minded people.

Aside from what DB said, I'm here because I enjoy myself to the hilt! Obviously there are some lesser parts as a moderator, but still mostly the forum is a really good place to be!
I learn everyday, and wish I could have more time on the forums so I could be spending more time on the birding forum...
A fledgling birder I am, only 153 or such birds on my list, but I learn there to really look at birds!

And last but not least... I met the love of my life here!
Somehow that will keep me here for a very long time, and that's aside from all the friendship on the forums....

Why am I on the forum

purely and simply, because I love the energy, the people, the knowledge..

the forum inspires me, it motivates me, it has given me more than I could ever return..

Gerhard, I am sorry that you feel bad. Just a thought.. recently, I had a really horrible experience where something I respected was trashed..

I was visibly demotivated. A young man, standing next to me said, "don't let this destroy your dream"

If you are disappointed, just hold onto your own dream. Don't let anyone else trash it..

Yes, I am here because I want to learn - but also to share and 'do'. I want things to be better.....and sitting back and waiting never achieves anything worthwhile. I ignore the negative when I can do nothing about it - but if there is something I can do, I try to do it in a constructive way. I believe problems can be turned into positives if handled the right way by the right people.

Gerhard, listen, read, hear and take in what MM has written.

I will tell you why I am here, and that is:

For the love of conservation, the love of the parks, the love of the forum, and the love of the people.

For the ability to learn each day from my fellow forumites.

Life is too short to be negative. Positive thoughts, deeds, actions, make you a happier stronger person. I feel desperately sorry for people who have Negative thoughts about anything.

Gerhard, don't be discouraged. The good on the forum far outweighs the bad. I don't post much but thoroughly enjoy browsing and learning every day. Like Duques the Bird Forum being my favourite. And like him met my soulmate on the forum. (3 guesses who that is. ) I always enjoy reading your contributions.

Im not at least discouraged!! I dont get discouraged that easily!!

I just wondered why some people will only see the negative and bad in everything and then try to make other aswell negative.

Like all of you said the forum is a great place to share, learn and be passionate about something we all care about!

Gerhard - vasbyt boet (hang in there). I know that you are a totally positive person and forumite.

Like you I pity those that can only be negative and jump on every opportunity to criticize and carry on about "the good old days". I am older than most of those, yet I refuse to be negative. I regard the forum as a place of joy, fun, laughter and sharing wonderful experiences.

So as this is the season of goodwill and sharing - lets look forward to a 2009 full of positive activity here on the forum

Hi, dont you find a small group of negative people in all walks of life.
At the office, in the neighbourhood, politics etc. So as this forum should reflect a big community also over here you will find the same group.
Nothing wrong with it, but the way people function as a group.
So dont let them run you down.

And - don't take this the wrong way! - but isn't complaining about the complainers/negative folk only joining their ranks anyway? Just ignore them, move on, and emphasize the positive!
