Welcome to the Forums Hiker2014.

When selecting your vehicle of choice you should also consider what time of year you are going to visit the park. From Jan-May the grass will be at it's tallest. The Avanza seems to be your first choice. So dependent on when you visit the vehicle option would be more or less decisive in how far you would be able to view from the road in the the bush.

The higher vehicle doesn't guarantee you better sightings that a lower one. It's about timing. Hope you have an amazing time in Kruger and a lot of big and small things of all kinds.

Have a look in the Travel Tales section; we look forward to seeing a trip report of your Kruger experience.

Can´t promise but I use to write my experiences at the end of every day while travelling ( if I´m not exhausted), so a trip report is nearly guaranteed.

After comparing different companies and vehicles, it seems Avanza is a good affordable choice, we´ve driven the X-Trail before but it´s more expensive and the height is more or less the same ( though the comfort will be a different matter, we are not exacting).

We´ll travel between August-September so we have plenty of time to learn as much as we can from this great forum.

During the time of your visit the grass should be stunted. Thus making the height of vehicle less important from a sighting perspective. In the past I've gone with a tiny Toyota sedan up and down all the dirt roads. Provided there are any deep muddy ruts you'll fine. With the Avanza.
